Mind you if I do programming as long as I did BAing I might become bored there too.
Great thing about where I work for, Ive been there 20 years and had about 20 different jobs while the super keeps on mounting up along with flexible working hours and LSL. :D

And contracting pays 2-3 times the amount in the Circus..... however the LSL is pretty good. The super is pretty good too, my 11 years 11 months is still accruing nicely!

But I can't disagree about the working with morons as a BA. I've worked in the Circus, and several different industries and the only constant is the moron factor.

Grow up and let it go, Andy! You really are being petty.

I have made most of my money from property dealings, not Medicine, as did my sister, who didn't even go to University, and I am about to quit Medicine entirely because it just does not pay as well as I can do elsewhere.

To answer you, yes, we did have a Range Rover and a Porsche simultaneously for a while - around 1984 to 1987, when I sold the Porsche, but my wife kept the Range Rover I'd bought for her to replace her old Mini-van until 1996, when I sold the farm and bought her a Musso she still has. We also had a Suzuki Ute, and later a Toyota tray top. One of my lawyer friend's, who bred Simmentaler nearby, had a Toyota tray top too because you can't tote hay in a Lexus either. He and I both did the farm work ourselves and were seriously trying to make it pay, not swanning around with hired help to do it all.

Ral Rainsford, who ran Chateau Moteur, did offer to make me a Porsche Ute if I really wanted one though, while we were chatting, over a glass of Chardonnay if I recall correctly - neither of us were serious.

"Rich Doctor"?? Your average doctor charges about $220 per hour. Law firms charge $450 per hour for the principals and $350 per hour for a junior.
Do I understand correctly from your posts that Law is your field?

... and, based on the numbers of hours they do outside of the classroom, teachers earn a paltry $20 an hour.

I agree teachers and nurses are appallingly paid because they are paid at the level politicians value them, not at the level the public does... then that applies to how politicians are paid too!

[Clever move, linking MP's pay to Judges' salaries then getting Judges to determine MP's salaries.]

I guess nurses and teachers have suffered from limited opportunity to just walk away- although there is WA offering now! My wife comes from a chalkie family, but a couple of years was enough for her and she had moved into the Commonwealth Public Service when I met her.

Mind you I made less than $5 an hour my first year in Medicine.

I did have the chance to walk away from the teaching profession. I worked for the Royal Flying Doctor Service as an accountant in 2006. However, there is something about teaching that draws me back - I think I see it as a vocation and want to help kids out.
Agree with the poor salary of doctors in their first year out - my lady, Sheree, will be doing her internship next year and I will be earning more than her (even on a teacher's salary).

Currently a business consultant (strategic and operational plan development for clients), getting billed out at $150 per hour to the client - sadly, my employer keeps a little more than 2/3 of that :( . Also studying Commerce at Uni with a view to an exciting career change in the next 12 months.

Lunchcutter, I average 30 hours a week in the classroom, 30 hours a week preparing work, 20 hours a week marking and 10 hours a week officiating with sport for the school. That makes on average a 90 hour week. Yes, it is the same for most teachers. Yes, I know it is only for 40 weeks a year full time week but 40 x 90 = 3600 hours per year. Based on the average person working 47 weeks (taking off the four weeks annual leave and the one week of public holidays that fall during school holidays), they would need to be working 77 hours a week to be working more.

Rushby, tis not absolute rot. I can vouch that I work those hours and most of the teachers I know do too. For instance, I got three hours sleep per night last weekend due to my teaching involvement - preparing tests, marking other tests, preparing assessment plans etc.

Rushby, you are correct and I apologise. My hours (and those of the teachers I have most contact with) probably occur because I teach in a Catholic College (where, yes, they do make us really put in - both inside and outside the classroom) and because I teach a range of Year 12 subjects. Year 12 subjects where I have to keep in touch with recent developments, changing theories etc (Business Studies, Economics etc.)

Hooray!

So your hours compared to the public system probably average about 35 hours per week.

All depends how much those teachers are devoted to their job. Yes, it is possible for some teachers to get by on very low hours. However, if they are interested in the future of their students, many more hours are required.

My brother in law works in a state school south of Adelaide - he never stops - and he is also involved in local community and sports clubs. I admire his energy. His wife is trying to get him to ease off before he gets his heart attack.

I have 3 Uncles, 2 Aunties & my Dad who were/are school teachers/Principals.
I'd say High School teachers do a 5hitload more than 38 hours a week.
My Dad also coached High-school football teams, which added another 3hrs a week.
Primary school teachers would still do more than 38 hrs, but I'd say HS teachers have it worse- marking exams etc.

Anyone who says otherfwise is full of 5hit &/or ignorant.
