Cars around the boundary!

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Interesting call coming from a bloke who apparantly runs around an oval in the middle of town with cars parked all around it every week. :?
Therefore TM, you should be well aware of the atmosphere that a tooting horn after a goal can bring to a game. Now I've never braved the trip to Noarlunga, but if its as dead as everyone claims, I reckon it can only be good for the game, sort of like a "bring the country to the city" type of feel.

Good move SANFL

FC

Too many ramifications involved :

Imagine if a car ran over a spectator and then the
litigation and the public liability issues.

On the lighter side:
Maybe SA could put a radar in the oval and raise some
revenue to purchase some more AFL rejects.

There have been heaps of country footy games that probably get more people to the game than what south do that have not had this type of incident. Granted it is possible, but thats why you restrict the speed of cars inside the ground. That way if a car hits someone, they probably were speeding and hence liability is with the driver.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

You can almost drive your car right to the fence at the northern goals at Prospect Oval when your team plays there.  8)

I worry about the legal issues involved, and the possible costs to the SANFL club if someone gets injured or their car gets damaged. I really don't think they need it at SANFL level. If South would build some more seating/shelter at Windy Hill it would achieve the same thing, but without looking like hicksville.

Yep great for country footy and couldn't agree more but one thing SANFL footy ain't country footy. It is a semi professional league suspposedly the 2nd best competition in the land. Cars around the oval dimisish that professional image. If that is the image the SAFC want to portray go and join the SFL.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

but if it draws the crowds, who cares? The SANFL are trying to promote themselves as "Grass Roots Football". Whats more grass roots than cars around the oval?

TM- Tim Shaw already diminishes the SANFL so- called semi professional image, so you may as well give up on that argument...

Which is why so many people do not like the Tim Shaw adds. Our players, officials and coaches are professionals in attitude if not remuneration. Don't make it out to be some twice a week Saturday afternoon training and playing shennanigans when it isn't. You are seeing the best players outside the AFL and the up and coming future stars of the AFL each week at SANFL suburban grounds.

Not some half-ar5ed pass the bottle of rum around at 3/4 time country game.

Lower your standards you start to accept mediocrity maybe this attitude is teh root of South Adelaides problems of the last 40 years. This is a classic case of lowering your standards.

As I said before I've got no problems with it for country and amateur level footy but for the 2nd best comp outside the AFL FFS

Can you imagine the possibilities.

A game on the line, the opponent having a shot that will win the match for their team & then South fans flash the high beams on them!

Or what about the car horn wave around the boundary. Forget the Azteca & Mexico, Noarlunga will be where it's at. 8) :D

I may even go for a look depending on if Bays are playing and who. I like the idea of parking around ground hence the reason I go to a few country games each year. Great atmosphere with added plus of bringing your own beverages. :D

As someone who grow up watching country footy, often from the confines of a parked car, i agree 100% with Tassie.

To make the day complete:

 Someone's dog needs to run on the oval
 Some kid needs to walk around the boundary at 3/4 time holding a sign with the raffle winner
 Should be about 5 games in one day, starting @ 9am for the little kids
 Some fat bloke will need to play full forward, not run, and kick a dozen + goals
 The "ladies" will play netball at the same time on the netball/tennis courts
 The bbq will have the best steak burgers (which were stll on 4 legs the day before)
 BOG will win a meat tray
 Will be a big brawl, between two blokes who punched each other the last 7 times these teams met.
 If you know the bloke on the gate you may get a discount on entry price
 The oval will be the exact same size as the MCG, which allegedly every country oval is, even if it isn't
 The ladies auxilary will prepare a magnificent array of buns
 The umpire will be over 45, will work for a bank or post office, and 'should have retired years ago, he hates us"
 Will be a bloke playing for the other team who used to play for our team. Boo.
 Someone will take the hanger of the year
 most people will drive home pissed
 the local cop, after playing and getting in a brawl with a bloke he picked up for drink driving 6 months before, will also drive home pissed
 allegedly the captain is knocking off his best mates girlfriend, and she is the star goal shooter in the netball team
 VB's will be cheap and cold
 a great day guaranteed!

can south supporters do everyone a favour and run over a few port supporters, that will ease the centrelink line at Port Adelaide for a day or 2.

Now we are starting to get some creative ideas. The oval should be redsigned so that it has a drive though kiosk and bar. Haven't figured out how a drive through dunny works yet.
We used to be good :-(

Drebin: I agree
"Surely Sunday games with a push for Southern Football League attendees to get out and Support South would be more sensible."
This is the answer.
Night games would also be great!

I dont think cars around the oval will be answer to small crowds

Getting some of the thousands of football people that are tied up with Southern and the Great Southern football league on saturdays along to the home matches must be the SAFCs prime objective to increasing attendences.
