Are the SA Government in trouble?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Yes the millionaires that live on East Terrace are her constituents  whereas the the working class people in the Northern and Southern suburbs that support her party and enjoy the Clipsal 500 can get stuffed. Not high brow enough for our "socialist" Jane who happens to be quite wealthy herself, she once had her own private pathology company. I wonder if she and hubby are members of the Adelaide Club?

A local member is supposed to be primarily a representative of the people who live in the electorate, not a cog in a party juggernaut.

If I still lived in Adelaide I'd been saying, "Let those who like the Clipsal 500 hold it where they live." The Grand Prix was a pain when I lived inthe Adelaide Hills and worked near the track. It was so bad I just gave up trying to work that week in the end. I was with Lyn Arnold letting it be stolen by Melbourne - he knew how to do the sensible thing while minimising the flack he got from the party rednecks like any good socialist politician.

CONFESSED terrorism supporter David Hicks and his father Terry have made a surprise appearance at Senator Natasha Stott Despoja's farewell drinks in the city tonight.

Senator Stott Despoja is tonight being farewelled from politics by friends, former colleagues and media at the Universal Wine Bar on Rundle St. Among the guests are State Treasurer Kevin Foley and Channel 9 newsreader Kelly Nestor.

Bet this was a case of "run Kevin, run!"

Since her hubby was formerly one of John Howard's trusted advisers, there may well have been young Libs there. The hypocrisy of the Champagne sipping lefty knows no bounds

Mick, I believe the term(s) you are looking for are

Champagne socialist or Chardonnay socialist.

Someone called me a member of the Latte Left the other day. I took GREAT offence to this.....I am a capuccino drinker after all.

And both states have a public whose majority can't see the broader picture and make choices based on economic necessity and sense, rather than whether they can like and relate to the candidates as people. We are lucky we don't get some popular idiot from Big Brother, or a footy "star", becoming PM or Premier.

I just turned down lunch with Brendan Nelson at a Lib. function.
I met him when he was AMA President, and I have no need, or wish, to do so again.

Welllllll...I met Brendan Nelson in Adelaide last year.
Lovely chap although unfortunately the conviction with which he speaks does not seem to have had an impact on the people in the party.
He even commented on my Clash t-shirt.
Jolly good chap. Pip pip.

I've had the impression Brendan was pleasant enough, but his opinions are.. let's say "flexible".
I prefer people who stand up, and you know where you are with them, whether you agree with them or not.
AD and I discussed a few things we agreed to disagree about, in a friendly manner, when I lived in Mayo and later by email.

Well, I know you can't draw conclusions from interstate elections especially NT elections which are different to other State / Territory elections/electorates

but the NT Labor Govt has just copped a right royal pantsing today and will just hold on with a one seat majority. The could yet be forced into a minority government but it is unlikely.

what is interesting is that the NT Opposition leader ran a campaign that was very amateurish and he was attacked mercilessly by the government in negative campiagn against him. Despite all this he has won 7 seats.

Some of the issues that could transfer to here are, people rebelling about labor dominated govts across teh country and disatisfaction with media savvy spin focussing on the lChief Minister/Premier to make him look good.

What was also seen was a correction to relative normality in the normal two party preferred vote. Liek here in 2006, the 2005 saw huge swings to teh government that saw it dominate the parliament three times as many seats as the opposition party and independants.

Could we see a correction here in 2010 where Labor might not lose power but will return to a 1 or 2 seat majority like normally occurs here in SA.

Also meant to add that former Port premiership player, SANFL employee, NTFL General Manager and now ex-NT Minister for Mines and Energy Chris Natt lost his seat yesterday. A brief 4 year sojourn into NT politics is over for the big fella.

WA election was called last week the day after Buswell resigned as Lib opposition leader. Will be interesting to see if there is a similar swing to the Libs there.
