I've heard there are a series of tunnells around Adelaide, that end up going out to sea...

edit: yes, it's correct- they're called "stormwater drains"

Tunnels from some of the pubs in the Port to the Warves, built for moving supplies but also used in the early days for recruiting "volunteer" sailors to the sailing ships after they passed out in the bars.

Some of the buildings in the Port, what is now the ground floor was originally the 1st floor before the Port was built up with land fill to prevent flooding during (very) high tide.

Both of those were told to me by a former publican of the Royal Arms, not sure if they are a myth/legend or fact.

When i was a kid, my dad used to work at the First Commercial hotel and their cellar used to flood on very high tides. The kegs kept down there would literally be floating !!!

Don't know about currently, but I did see him in a deli in Parkside almost 20 years ago. Some grumpy old bastard with 4,000 kids in tow buying them ice creams holding me up when I was trying to buy a packet of smokes. He turned around and it was "Aussie Mel" looking frazzled and ready to belt someone/something.

The logistics of managing to stick razor blades on a water slide now seem impossible, but yeah, had me worried too.

Not sure what the roll eyes are about - this is a thread about Adelaide's myths and legends.
That story is obviously a myth/legend that many of us have heard.

When we were kids, my sister refused point-blank to go on those waterslides for that very reason!

Haven't heard anything about upbringing, but I'd heard Johnny was not only sane, but very intelligent.

Correct CP & an acquaintance from Clare says JH is a pretty popular fella up that way.
JH has also been known to play a very 'useful' brand of footy.

Carclew has two well known ghosts. One is of a little girl that no one seems to know the origins of or why she is there. The other is a wife of one of the past owners. There are two thoughts on this. One is she was thrown from the tower and murdered, the other is she had her neck broken when climbing the stairs to the tower. Either way there have been many reported sightings.

There is also a mansion on Robe Terrace, Medindie that as far as I know still has a room decorated like the 1920s as everytime a new owner tries to renovate the "activity" brings it to a halt. My grandmother use to tell of how she knew the previous owners and their young daughter had died in that room of TB.
