Yeah i thought the whole insulation thing was a little strange. I think it'll be a long time before we see a govt take any action with the Australia's water issues. They'll probably wait until its too late before doing something about it.

yeah I don't get that part either, iinsulation is more a climate change thing? saving emissions. I guess it will create jobs too.

even the primary school bit, 7500 upgrades. Although I think is great, how is that directly 'NOW' going to help the economy? (a part from creating jobs etc). I aint no economist so got no idea?

Schools' facilities isn't the problem, it's the curriculum that needs upgrading/revamping!

Abstudy, Austudy, youth allowance basically getting any money from the govt to educate yourself. So school kids nup unless they indicidually get money to go to school. So your average 5 -15 yo won't get it. Just spoke to an electoral officer who works for a govt member...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Turn it up. $100K a year, you're sweet. Welfare is not for the rich although John Howard tried to make it acceptable. Take money off the poor to give to the rich, some ethics that. Won't win him votes? You think anyone will give a stuff about this payment come late 2010? Speaking of trying to buy votes, What was Howard's old trick...$300 payment to old age pensioners only on the eve of the election? Nah that's not trying to buy votes.

So this is welfare?

I fail to see the point of giving out handouts for people sitting on their bum, wont that just encourage them to keep doing waht they are doing?

LM has a great point, Australia gets enough rain, just in the wrong places....a pipeline would costs billions but would be the solution LONG TERM but it would also cost the government the next election as they would have to stop these handouts  so it wont get done

If they paid tax on their unemployment benefits or they could possibly fit into the category of "other income support", I'm no expert, I'm just trying to read between the lines of how it's written, I was pretty accurate with the last one.

A family with an income of $100K and a mortgage is not "rich". In my own situation I won't be getting anything, I've never had a free kick from the government in my whole working life or ever used social security, I'm rather proud of that and thank-you Mr Rudd for preserving my unblemished record

I think there has been a separate proposal to increase welfare payments.

agree with points 1 & 3 but not sure why you dont like the pipeline idea? too much water up North, not enough in the South...seems sensible to me

Go have a look at the Riverland, obviously you're not studying economics or agriculture. The farmers in the Riverland are on sh!t street atm, crops are running at 10% or less for a lot of them. You're educated, why don't you suss out if you're eligible or not.

Points 1 & 3 would not be necessary if point 2 was employed. I should've worded it better initially, there should have been an "or" in there somewhere.

Pumping water from North - South, would be a great idea, considering Darwin have a Dam they could start using again. They should've done it at the same time as they put the train line in.......
