The role of tribunal members.

Postby aceman » Wed Apr 08, 2009 11:46 pm

When reported players are required to attend a tribunal hearing, when or where should the role of being a tribunal member cease?

Had an interesting comment made to a player who had been found 'not guilty' which I thought was in poor taste, completely unfair and unneccesary.

I'm not going to disclose publicly what was said, but I will pm questions, suffice to say I believe one member overstepped the mark with a statement he made.

Telling us what was said so we can make a judgment is probably the easiest way rather then PMing everyone who asks.

Very interseted to hear it mate, had a case 2 years ago against Gaza that was very, very badly handled and opinions given by tribunal members that actually impeded the hearing when clearly out of line.

Mate, your player got off lightly if all he received was an "off the cuff" comment, but in saying that, it still shouldnt matter. Tribunals are put in place to hand out their own verdict without BIAS. I personally think the tribunal at SAAFL are Shadiacs pidgeons. Whatever he says goes.

Ive had the tribunal and various other people absolutely slander me and made my footy career(and life to a lesser extent) very miserable because of the s**t that was said about me.

If you do try and do anything about it, make sure you have 100% proof.

Happy to answer mate, at the moment we've had a few things start to look positive. We've had a few chats to a few different people incl people in SAAFL and even Uni. Obviously i cant say what was said or asked but we should have a clearer view within the next few weeks.

As for your 2nd question, i believe there may be a slight chance of donning the double blue again when my 15 games are up. I was allowed to play in a trial game so thats a start (lazy 9.1 haha). Im not gonna get my hopes up too much because we still have a while to go before that happens.

I hope this answers your questions. Sorry i couldnt be more detailed but obviously i cant say too much at this stage.

sounds good mate, after what ive heard around the place it seems that you have been harshly dealt with and had a clean record up to this offense, imo 15 weeks is sevre enough(dont know what you did or anything) but if barry hall can get 7 for knocking abloke out then 15 is surely enough, what the league doesnt realise is that blokes like you(and me) love our clubs and would never consider playing in another league

Cheers mate. Thats the thing, ive only ever played for 2 clubs, Salis Nth and Paralowie. My parents have been heavily involved in both clubs while ive been there. At the moment, all my mates play at the Roos and i dont drive (have a scooter :D) so playing in another league is highly doubtful.

Would be interesting to see what will happen if you are allowed to play again after being suspended for more than the 12 game limit. Surely there would be alot of interest being shown in this from a few clubs who have players sitting on the sidelines because of this ruling. We have a bloke who can not play because he has been suspended twice for a combined total of 13. The only reason he hit the magical 12 game mark was because the second incident he could not make the tribunal hearing and after sending a letter in asking to be excused because he worked arvos and was casual they still slapped an extra 2 games on for not turning up.

Surely will open a can of worms

i'm with you on this one - yes it mightn't be the best rule but 12 is 12

Without a doubt it can BigShow.

Its highly possibile that it could eventuate to absolutely nothing and ill still be on the sidelines. Unfortunately thats the way it goes but all i guess I can do is to search every option in the hope something may come up.

No, suspended means that he would be unable to play an active part in any SAAFL game.

Im aware of that
but that could be something that if the SAAFL doesnt allow him to play again, he could look at negotiating or asking as that way he could still involve himself with the club!

No player from a club that is affiliated with the SANFL may, whilst under suspension for any reason, have ANY ROLE within any club for the duration of that suspension.

What was the reason the 12 game ban was brought in.
Why did the clubs vote it in
It seems since it's induction, some clubs pay more heavily than others.
