So, under your plan, when it's still blistering hot at 11pm (instead of midnight) how much cooler is it at midnight? Does that 1 hour make all the difference?
If there wasn't daylight saving it would still light (and hot) at 8pm!
I'm with smac & quichey & co ... love DLS but it could have finished earlier

It doesn't make ALL the difference but it does make some difference, throw into the equation time is about 90 minutes out from where it should be in summer and that difference can be quite a bit.
90 minutes can sometimes mean 5 degrees, admittedly it can also mean .5 degrees but Im sure on an average it'd work out better for those trying to get to sleep before midnight who dont have air con.
Im lucky in that I have decent air conditioning but I know all too well 1 degree can make a hell of a lot of difference when trying to sleep and if you miss your sleep cycle it can cost you up to 2 hours of sleep.
Economically and logically it would actually make sense to turn the clocks back in the other direction during the summer. That would never happen though.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether Adelaide's longest days are longer and our shorter days are shorther because we are so much further towards one of the poles?
JAS would know! She's nearer one of the geographic poles than any of us in Oz.

It's not the direct sunlight causing the heat at the end of the day it's the residual temperature in the air. Having said all that, those days and nights are the exception why should we interfere with the majority who enjoy the extra hour of daylight just so we get an 8pm sunset for the 10% of summer days when it's a scorcher?
I bet you wouldn't notice the difference at all if it got dark at 8pm instead of 9pm. I think the truth is that you are just anti-daylight saving full stop. Which is fine it's your opinion.
