I am not a diabetic, but I am a big fat bastard. Over the years I have tried different diets and stuff, and I did Atkins about 4 years ago. I read the book and got into the theory of it and everything.
It is highly recommended for diabetics, it claims to lower the body's resistance to insulin, because your body makes very little of the stuff with the Atkins diet as there are very few carbs. It also drastically lowers your trygliceride levels.
Like I said I am not a diabetic but as a habitual fat bastard I can attest to the diet achieving everything it claimed to in the way of evaporating fat off me. I lost 12 kilograms in about 3 or 4 months, the whole time eating high fat foods (almost no trans-fats though) and lots of meat and veggies.
I eventually gave it up because....... this may sound strange, but I gave it up because I lost the ability to be happy in the last month or so. Life suddenly became boring, even though my body was feeling great. I have since come across a couple of sources that claim that carbohydrates are linked to brain function and have a profound affect on emotion, I think I am in a minority that experienced this side affect, but it was the sole thing that made me give it up.
Have you tried it? It claims to work wonders for diabetics and I am curious about how true those claims are.
