I take your point, CoverKing, but I look at it a bit differently.

He made mistakes, but he gives us something that's priceless.

Heart.
The will to win.
Courage.
Setting an example.
Confidence.

He'll do me.

Interesting about Anderson, NFC. Another opposition supporter said the same a week or two ago.

Unfortunately, he was taken to hospital after that collision with severe concussion. (Anderson, that is, not the opposition supporter :) )

Hopefully he'll be OK.

Correct NFC.

Well done to all the trainers that got to Anderson and the Norwood quickly. Well done to the ump that stopped the play.

Westies outplayed us after an ordinary start. I called it at about the 10 min mark of the second qtr that we were going to lose and I was right!

You deserved the win and as upset I was at the end, something deep inside me made me have a small smile for the REAL west supporters who rocked up in the crap weather instead of sitting at home and watching it on the TV. You haven't won much lately, everyone saying you are destined for the spoon etc etc and to have a win like that is such a great feeling as a REAL supporter. Being there through the thick and thin over the past 10 years at Norwood, I understand your emotion and joy today.

Well done, enjoy it.. we will get u next time! ;)

well said leggies, it was definitely crap weather. EXTREMELY COLD THERE. it flirted with the rain continously. We shall get u next time again though.
Wasnt it good to see Jericho help West get another win (our last win was nearly when he was playing with us) by leaving the ground when he was playing some pretty good footy ;)

I actually thought he was probably our best overall today

Westies began this season with a large number of players turned over and I feel today really turned the corner in terms of the team begining to gel together as a side. Westies were beaten by South who would later be caned by Norwood, Westies have clearly improved and I think they will lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder, the question is at this stage who they will hand that spoon to? Maybe we will find out in a fortnight or so when Port play South?

In any event it was an awesome game to listen to on 5RPH today and I do hope its only the first of several wins for the club this season! 8)

yeah he was the best IMO aswell. thats what i was getting at saying he helped westies win by leaving the ground.

and R&B never doubting any of those with Sal. He has always played with the will to win and the courage since first putting the guernsey on for us. he has not changed since coming back either.

NFC anderson is a real go-er, a hard at it player and one that will go along way in how we fare this year. Thankfully we have the bye and hoping he gets back for next game. I recorded the game on foxtel and went back to see the incident. it looked very minor, something that just cant be controlled and happens on the footy field. anderson was out of it before he hit the ground. Hopefully he pulls up well health wise and also is up and ready for the centrals game.

The Redlegs went downhill the moment in the second quarter (about 12 mins in) that the new scoreboard "dropped" the sign that said "Norwood". The sign was lucky to avoid the 8 or so fans sitting in their deck chairs immediately below, and thereafter the scoreboard showed "West" and "Visitors".

St John and Weslo arrived to check on the health of the fans under the scoreboard but it was actually the Norwood sign that needed first aid - it was duly carried away and the team's fortunes followed suit.

It's a long time since we've won a game from that far behind, just such an important win for our club.
Gotta say I'm also impressed by and appreciative of the sportsman-like reaction to the result by the Norwood posters. These sorts of losses are really hard to stomach so well done to you folks.

LOL as arrogant as coming to gloat on a thread for a match that doesn't concern your own team? Careful boys, you're making a rod for your own back here.

On the incident between Lee and Anderson, was it a clash of heads? It looked a pretty innocuous clash from where we were standing (in front of the glass bar window)

Yeah Jimmy, you would know how it feels to lose like that. 2008 Qualifying Final anyone? ;)

On the game, I swear sometimes that the Norwood players and coaching staff just hate us fans that go week in week out. Surely they do to dish out that crap after 10 mins into 2nd term.

Yes, CP, it was an accidental clash of heads between two players going for the ball.

I would say that, wouldn't I. I barrack for the Bloods and we all think our own ground is the best, but there's something special about our ground. Built by our own players and officials, it always guarantees a great surface, even in conditions such as this weekend. It's got plenty of room, the best scoreboard in the league, the best BBQ in the league and the most loyal supporters.

What, no claim to the best-lit ablutions block? ;)

What in the hell is going on down there at the Parade...too many egos running around out there getting paid too much for doing too little.....Norwood dont seem to be a "club" anymore....just a bunch of over-rated imports that have no real allegiance to the club and certainly no accountability to their loyal and incredibly patient supporters.....there is no way the Legs should have lost that game yesterday.....they ran out onto Richmond Oval with far the better team, greater experience, better skills and superior physical strength and height..... to be 7 goals up in the first quarter in the wet and lose !...with that team !!!.......gimme a break......full marks to Westies though, showed true character and a lot of heart in a win that should really boost morale....Andy Collins is doing a great job with a pretty thin list at his disposal...... Trevor Hill, on the other hand, is obviously struggling to get some of the most talented footballers in the SANFL to understand his gameplan.

It's been a desolate place for Bloods' supporters in recent years. Heartbreak losses have been followed by embarrassing losses. The rare winning positions during a game have been frittered away, lack of skill has constantly turned hope into despair and the rare positives have disappeared as quickly as they originally appeared. Our mini-draft picks turn into regular AFL players, never to be seen again, in weeks. Our fringe AFL players have 'travelling emergency' stamped on their passports and to we hardy West fans, it seems that the umpires are on a crusade to ensure we have the biggest free kick deficiency year after year, which we do.

To the Bloods' supporter, it's a never-ending bashing of our heads into a brick wall. Anything we say is easily refuted by pointing to the ladder. There's no come- back to that, so we bear it. We don't grin, though, but we keep turning up. There's not that many of us, but we keep turning up, hoping that one Saturday, just one, the football gods will smile on us.

Until today, we must have really displeased the football gods. We lost to South, kicking 7.16 and having a hundred more possessions. We drew with he Eagles. Drew, for goodness sake, but were pretty happy about it, actually. Sturt gave us a hiding and then the football gods decided to give Glenelg another goal from a free kick with a minute to go. A deserved free, as were the other 4 goals from free kicks, cried the Bay supporters. We had no comeback, of course, so we took our disappointment home with us.

But we turned up again today.

I took a lot of comfort from our Reserves winning by 11 goals in an almost faultless display. Simon Munn had a lazy 50 possessions, but it was the fact that a West Reserves team had at least 15 players pushing for league selection that pleased me most.

To the league game. Here we go again. The coin is tossed, we lose and before you know it the game was over. 6 goals down at quarter time. Perhaps we'll do better with the wind; nope, soon it's 7 goals (and a bit). We chip away and get within 3 goals, with a set shot from 30 out, straight in front, to make it 2. We're not good at set shots from 20 to 30 out, miss and the Legs soon kick one at the other end.

Half-time and I have this weird feeling I haven't experienced for a long time. It takes a while, but I eventually diagnose it as quiet confidence. We play a great 3rd quarter into a strong wind and kick a goal in 30 seconds of the last to get close. It's a tease again, of course, we send our best running player to hospital and don't score another goal for 20 minutes or so. But strange things are happening. Suddenly Norwood keep kicking points from set shots and we're still in it. 2 goals needed, though and time's running out. Another 'honourable loss'. I've had enough of honourable losses and can't stand another one.

Davenport goals!

Seconds to go, SAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sal, you b.......y beauty, first game back after a knee reco.

We win.

I see more than one West supporter with a tear in the eye. Only West supporters would understand and I empathise.

Me, no tears, but I scream 'YESSSSSSSSS', over and over again.

The West players go over to where our past players were congregated for the day and acknowledge them. Later, I'm lucky enough to join the circle for the singing of the song and I give it all I've got.

Later, on radio, I hear Centrals sing the same song in a very matter of fact way. I sang with gusto, but only half for the win I'd just seen.

The other half came from the belief that we're on the right path to singing the song as a matter of fact.

Sensational perspective, R&B.
Who says you can't express yourself (or put context and feeling) into an electronic form. Terrific summary.

For my Dogs - 'Matter of fact' - is a bit harsh, but after a hollow thumping the song was just a contrived TV event. Me and my fellow Dog supporters know we earned the matter of factness with many moons of hard work before the sun shone on this golden decade.
