First of all id like to say well done to Nairne. They were too tall, too quick and worked harder than we did today. I have to be careful how I put this...... but there was 2 sets of rules employed by the umpires today. The Ump coach did both games in a clear message to our club, who have been unfairly stereotyped in recent weeks. Whilst it wouldnt have made a big difference to the scoreboard I think it was a poor display. Again take nothing away from Nairne, we had an off day with a couple players missing but still too good.

Alas now all we can do is rest up, couple weeks off and hopefully after the break we have a few key players return and put up more of a strong showing against the Brookers.

Shorty..

Perhaps gums might take the hint...the umps coach was a gums v rams game for one reason...He asserted his authority early and correclty so...if gums concentrate on playing football they might have a chance of making the five..

but the rams had too many guns..too much class and too much disciplne.

Oh I agree, he WAS given the game for a reason. My point was we have been unfairly stereotyped and yesterday proved that. Nothing untoward at all yet I would wager the free kick count was EXCEEDINGLY lopsided. If thats how we are going to be umpired from here on in, we will struggle. But as I said, Nairne were too good yesterday no doubt but as has been the case when we have played some of the better sides, 5 of our better A graders out yesterday..... theres plenty left in the tank.

9.30 training session for the boys too, shows how disappointed we are.

It was a case yesterday the Nairne where just too good. As for the umpiring, he was out there because of teaching a junior umpire during the B Grade, would they send a Jnr Umpire out to a Gumeracha game if the hfl thought it would get out of control?? I really dont think anyone was trying to make or point or if Gumeracha are meant to take a hint. I really think people should stop judging a book by its cover!!! Except that Gumeracha have improved, you dont automatically gain respect for winning a couple of games hence you shouldnt gain a reputation from 1 game, it does take 2 to tango!!!

Junior Umpire, i believe they wear green. The bloke that did the Nairne game has been umpiring for 6 years and has given more Red/Yellow cards in the last 6 years then ive had hot meals... The Umps coach went there to see how feral Gum really are, and its feral!!

totally agree with the nairne boys. that 6 out of the 6 teams gums have played who think there are some serious issues with the way they play their football. think we can throw the words 'stereotype' and 'prejudice' out of the window. mick taylor can be a tosser at times but does know how to control a game of footy

Obviously some are colour blind as I believe the umpire who umpired the B Grade with the umpires coach was wearing green...... Next time maybe we could ask the umpire to change just to keep you guys happy and give you something to talk about!!!

funny you say that... the umpire at the kangy/kersbrook b grade game on the weekend was colourblind! made it awkward to find free kicks or determine who had the ball. apparently he went by the pattern on the guernseys. did do a very good job though.

have the HFL ever considered lending the association jumpers when kangarilla and kersbrook play like they do with lofty and birdwood? might clear up the confusion

after reading all the quotes on how feral and rough gummy are I made an effort to head down there for a look. Personally though some of the gummy boys looked rough and tough, I thought they played as fairly as any other side I've watched this year. They attack the the ball pretty hard but name a coach who wouldn't like that. As for free kicks gummy where continuosly led to the footy by nairne and hense gave away plenty of frees. I thought Mick Taylor (umpire) tried to take control early and did a pretty good job but the other bloke (name escapes me) was terrible. All in all either gummy where on their best behaviour even though they went down by 10 goals. Or other teams and spectators really exaggerate the on field behaviour of gummy's players. The most shocking thing I saw was the gummy supporters clapping their players off the field after a bad loss. To be successful losing has to hurt everybody not just players..

Interesting comments re Gums style of play considering the coach they have.

I hear one of their recruits has left them this week and is heading back to Eastern Park, anyone else heard this?

We had 3 tall players missing on the weekend but its certainly a little bit of an issue. The main problem though was the lack of sustained midfield pressure. Cut the supply and Twomey and the like dont get the chances they had. First thing Thommo did say to the players after the game though.... "Well we're not as good as some of you's think we are", well put I wouldve thought.

What's going on at Kangy this year? is the mass exodus to Karoonda really hurting their depth or have they simply not improved as much as the other teams

probably a combination of both. only 5 went to karoonda in the end but a few moved away for work and others just wernt interested. just went down to nairne, guma and echunga but were well an truly belted by kersbrook. missed wakefield, clifford, raidis. panach etc. wouldnt write them off yet. few more in mid season after coming back from injury and reckon they might have a stronger 2nd half of the year.
