4/5 this week, as North Pines made a mockery of my Athelstone tip. I knew they were close to a win, but Bigshow's boys gave them a belting.

The Saints continued on their merry way Saturday but not without a fight from Ovingham on the most uniquely shaped ground in the SAAFL. For those who have never played there, Cane Reserve makes the SCG look long. However it was the visitors making the most of the small ground against the breeze in the first quater, with Ivan Novosel and Travis Smits dangerous around goals it appeared a question of how much were the Saints to win by. With both sides on direct opposite positions on the ladder, Ovingham needed to change things around quickly or risk a blow out. The Cats responded to the challenge in the 2nd quater and with Aaron Cooke and Roger Jurina winning plenty of footy in the midfield, the game became an arm wrestle. The 3rd quater was Ovingham's best as it's defence got on top, Cooke cleaned up at the stoppages and it was quickly becoming 'Nightmare on Churchill Road' for the Saints. It was not be for the prowling Cats as with Jason Mattner leading the Saints defence denied an upset in the last quater. Scott Mumford was the hero of the day kicking 6 goals for the Saints, and Joshua Nicholls made a welcome return from Overseas. Coach Riddler had few other winners on the day, and it was perhaps defining that the Saints song was not heard from their changerooms after the match. St.Pauls OS will need to regroup before facing it's Round 1 conqueror Athelstone who are also coming off a 'Nightmare' performance. Ovingham will no doubt be buoyed by their performance against a Top 5 Club, and with a strong midfield, could be a dangerous proposition on their home deck for any unsuspecting sides.

Was a good hard game of footy on Saturday NG you boys are a very good unit on your home deck and by no means should be sitting bottom of the ladder...I was very disappointed with our lads effort but full credit to you boys your pressure was good...Ambo keep doing what your doing mate I think the 2nd half of the year will be ok for your boys.

P.s the tag didn't work NG you still smashed us :D

I can't remember the day that we last played Adelaide Uni at Houghton, but on Saturday I witnessed something rather unusual and, quite frankly, disappointing. I looked over to the opposition bench and, for perhaps the first time ever in my life, I noticed that there were ZERO opposition supporters. Yes, the entire Reserves team had p*ssed off and left their clubmen to get flogged. It was quite a discussion amongst us lads after the game, we could not fathom why anyone would want to play C Grade for Adelaide Uni, being left with a substandard team with NO support. Some top blokes (who try their guts out) in that C Grade team, especially Pete Austin who sunk several beers with us after the game.

Cheers Nostradamus.......

We celebrated well into the night but also had a chat with the boys that they have now set a standard of footy that we expect them to maintain for the rest of the year.

Glad we could help out getting you blokes a game clear of the raggies. Im sure Quichey and his mates are just as pleased. Should be a cracking last half of the season in div 7 with most games lately being very closely contested. Looking forward to it.

As has been well commented, Adelaide Unis D grade team are simply trophy hunting. The D grade appears to be a mini club with in a large club.

Pigsy also see Uni Div 7 reserves win by 10+ goals and their Div 7 A grade lose by 20+ goals  Perhaps a few of you Div 7 clubs should start stacking your B grade against these 'Trophy Hunters'? ;)

Unlike Unis most div 7 clubs realise that winning a div 7R trophy does not help your club.

Nice write up But not singing your club song after the game shows poor form
and IMO shows disrespect for Ovinghams who has given you a run your money

I know you guys have won 8 in a row but dont start getting big heads
and the club song is a tradition that should not be used to administer punishment

I'd say its up to St Pauls as to whether or not they want to sing their song. Don't know how you can take that as a matter of disrepsect.

not really fussed TBH. i've played in games where we've won but not the way we expected too and didn't sing it. i don't know why they didn't. at the siren the coaching staff, bench and supporters were very excited so :-\ ... my guess is they expected us to be a lot worse than we are.

pretty disappointed to be sitting bottom half way through the year, definatley not where i expected us to be. didn't expect to be top but would've thought 3-6th kinda area. anyway, the second half of the year should be much improved on the first. hopefully we can keep up the intensity we showed in the second half against St Pauls and string a few together. If we can win our next three (which is not impossible) SHOCS @ home, Angle Vale away and Nth Pines @ home. we'll be 1 maybe 2 wins out of fifth spot and then maybe upset one of the top sides and beat Flinders & Adel Uni both @ home we could be amongst it come end of August... do not discount the cats just yet!!!
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

Definately entitled to your opinion Lads but also our perogative if we don't want to sing the song...had nothing to do with us expecting to win by more or thinking Ovingham were going to be easy. We treat, plan and play like we are up against the best side in the comp everyweek, we were very disappointed in our own personal performance on saturday and some senior players decided it didn't warrant singing it.

Too say it's disrespectful towards Ovingham may be going a bit too far had we played like that against a Henley we probably wouldn't have sung song either. If it's big headed not being happy in your performance then yeah I guess we are
