Maybe people voting thought it was Triple Mnot Triple J.
Beatles, Beach Boys, Wacko, Guns and Roses that is so not what Triple J is supposedly about.

It's not a matter of sounding elitist as you put it Mick, but Triple J was set up to provide an alternative to mainstream radio. This was why it was founded and funded initially back in 1975 (as double J) and the grounds on which it continues to be funded. Besides surely there are enough mainstream/commercial FM stations without Triple J adding to the pile.

fair enough, but maybe it suggests that the listeners of 3j just happen to like the mainstream stuff (but are perhaps unwilling to admit publicallyto the fact) unfortunately voting for a a top 100 is a democratic process that doesn't always yield the result one wants or expects. Given the valid reasons for setting up 3j that you very eloquently explained even if something is mainstream i.e. popular, makes money etc. is it any less worthy for inclusion? Don't get me wrong I think the philosophy of promoting non-mainstream bands/performers is desirable, but what happens if the struggling band you listen to in a pub in St Kilda suddenly becomes hugely popular are they then excluded from the top 100? Maybe 3j should not indulge in what is a meaningless exercise a la mainstream radio?

Given the publicity I would have thought there would have been a large proportion of votes from people who don't listen much to JJJ (more mainstream), but wanted to vote anyway.

I didn't vote on principle, I think it's a stupid idea. Nevertheless I'm curious to see the results and ponder the variables that lead to its composition.

Great list :)
Some songs I love - some songs that changed my life, some songs that I don't like and some I can't listen to...

But I don't care - it's all music

Top 10 will include Alive and/or Black by Pearl Jam
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (unfortunately. don't like it at all)

Maybe Last Goodbye
Maybe a silverchair song, who knows.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Noticed a few artists coming in with what I wouldn't consider a song even in their top 5.
Common though - that's the way it is.

Blur, Song 2
Pearl Jam, Betterman
Faith No More, Epic
Kings of Leon, Sex on Fire (by virtue of the fact they don't HAVE five good songs ;) )

I like Song 2, and Epic. Far better Blur and FNM songs though.
I have a massive Pearl Jam fan - though Betterman would be in my bottom 5% of songs of theirs.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.
