Watched the first quarter today and the boys looked pretty good. Were about 4 goals up at quarter time. Number 9 (I think it was Brunoli) was playing really well. Nick Jolly missed a couple early. Moony kicked a good rovers goal, right in front of the cameras too i reckon! Typical moony ;)

Number 28 for Tassie was a monster!!!

Watched the game last night intead of Grass Roots, not overly impressed with the standard.

I know i wasn't there and the footage was a little patchy but i thought the skill level and overall game was pretty ordinary. Not a great example of state footy imo.
Tasmania look a shambles and if its true that they only flew over the morning of the game and only trained a couple times together before that, doesn't that tell you that this Under 23 format is a joke. Obviously they are not taking it serious, why should we care???

We are all too used to watching AFL and any other game will look low standard in comparison on tele. Have played a Div 1 game, then watched it back on video, and the video made the game look VERY ordinary. As for the format, couldn't agree more. Bring back open age! Some very good footballers will never get to represent the state who would kill to pull on a state jumper, just not right! :(

U23 football is a joke! That side wouldn't even beat a top div 2 team let alone a div 1 team. How is that a good representation of what the SAAFL has to offer?

i think you would find that they would.i understand why some people dont like the format of 23,s but guys like...brunoli,hay,pollock,jolly,mason and a host of others are all very talented footballers.

brunoli was not BOG from wither coach or the umpires.

SA coach BOG = Joe Hay

TAS coach BOG = Dempsey

Umpire BOG = Pollock

C'mon. The U23 side would beat any current Amatuer team. It was a good team, just would not get close to an open age team.

having played in u23 state games, i could safely say that they would beat any div 2 side, and would make the top 5 in div 1. the lack of experience might be the only thinng that stops them from winning a div 1 flag.
and i wouldn't knock the concept of u23's. most players treat it with a lot more respect than what the open age state team was treated with by the players (not saying all players as i know some would love to play). the commitment of the u23 players when bob cross coached the side when we won the championship over the 3 years should be proof enough of that.
