I've been to watch all games when i can this season, but afer looking at the conditions through the window on saturday morning i made the descision not to go tot he game, a tough decision at that...

My reasoning was that there would be little to no shelter at the ground, no area where the ground would be hard eg concrete etc, no fixed sheltering if the conditions got unbearable eg clubrooms, possibility of no food outlets, miniature scoreboard which could not be seen from across the ground in dry conditions let alone of the rain was teaming down, impossibility of parking around the ground, area you have to walk in possible torrentual rain to get to the actual oval, which is still a hike even if you manage to get a park close to the oval.

I have no issues over plympton not getting a home final because of their contactual agreements with the brewer, no worries at all, but for Pulteney to get a final when the facilities are so far below standard which should be set for a final is rediculous...

This is just another case where the SAAFL are more interested in the allmighty $$$ (sponsorship aggreements) than the actual standard of football for which they are entrusted to govern.

There are grounds dotted all across the south western area which would have been fine to host a match that would hand the winner automatic entry into a grand final and a higher division. The fact that the parkland were given the green light is ridiculous.

After reading other forums regarding other clubs not being eligible to host a home final due to the west end debate, i will pose a question......

Surely pulteney didnt sell west end on tap on saturday, so can you meet the criteria simply by selling west end tinnies?

Heater, what was the selection criteria pulteney had to meet in order for you to host the final?

Is the selection criteria different for clubs that dont have bar and clubroom facilities as opposed to clubs that do????

Hey Jabber at WOS we dont have tap beer but its my understansding that the majority of the beer you sell must be Lion Nathan and it has to be displayed that way. I assume Plympton made a $$$$ deal with CUB knowing that "if " there is an opportunity to host a final that they just wone get to do so.??

yes Plympton was fully aware of the ruling when signing another CUB contract, and i can understand it, i believe that the rule states that you must have a contract with SAB or Lion Nathan, and it is not infact as was stated earler where you must "sell tap beer".

I don't believe that Pulteney would have a contract with any brewer. but thats an uneducated guess.

Plympton, i believe, even went to the association a few years ago and said that on the day of the finals they would sell only West End products, including tap beer, but this was no sufficient.

My gripe is not with this ruling, its understandable, both the SAAFL and LN want to get the most out of thier sponsorship dollar, my issue is with the hypocracy that a club can be refused a home final because of what it sells, and not the standard of its facilities...

I'm certainly not wha-wha-ing about the fact that plympton does not get a home final, its not exactly something that has sprung up on us overnight, there is no point in harping on it, but as stated above the facilities were sub-standard at pulteney, that is also not something that has sprung up overnight either, and were never EVER going to be at a finals footy standard, and as such should not have been allowed to host a match.

Let's face it... it's good to playing this weekend. There isn't a player worth his salt that would be making excuses.

I'd rather play at Panther Park, i've alwasy said that we play better there than anywhere else, especially Plympton Oval!!

I think all finals should be on neutral grounds, then you get rid of any variables. Clubs put in an application to host a final much like they do now, and they are then graded and zoned, then they are allocated out to matches depending on zoning areas in regards to which clubs are playing, and gradings of facilities in regards to the higher the div the better graded oval they get.

Here's the checklist from the saafl handbook. The word 'basic' appears a few times.

The bit on alcohol agreements is - Member Clubs must fulfil The League’s obligations to its sponsors, i.e. must be a SA Brewing Company sponsored Member Club and sell only SABC products at finals venue at its home matches during the minor round season.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR HOSTING A HOME FINAL
The Executive Committee sets the following criteria for Member Clubs to host finals Grounds
· The ground surface needs to be in ‘reasonable condition’ taking into account weather conditions in the weeks preceding the match.
· In adverse weather conditions, the Football Operations Committee will determine the suitability of the ground surface in the week preceding the match.
· The League reserves the right to change a finals venue during the week preceding the match Umpire and Player Facilities
· The change rooms must have basic facilities for players and umpires to change and trainers to prepare the players.

Spectator Facilities
That the Member Club provides basic facilities for spectators:
· Toilets – male, female, disabled (if possible)
· Canteen facilities
· Shelter from inclement conditions – temporary would suffice should there be no permanent shelter
*For a Member Club to qualify for a home final, the Executive Committee will consider temporary arrangements should the normal facilities fall short of expectation

agreed old farmer. finals games deserve the best venues available.

Mate, I'm not a certainty to be in the A's at the moment. I had tonsillitis pretty bad and played A's off the bench (what the coach likes to call an impact player) 2 weeks ago and B's on the weekend.

If I am playing A's I will be there from before the B grade start and if I'm playing B's I will be there until after the A's finish. You heading down?

I don't think the missus will be too keen to drive me to St. Marys to watch the game, I quite enjoyed a leisurely Saturday, I didn't know what to do, the pub was a handy place to ponder what I could do for the rest of the day.
