1969 man landed on the moon.

Anything!

1969 man landed on the moon.

Postby Dog_ger » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:24 pm

40 years later.

Have we really progressed.

Maybe we put a small robot on mars..?

Have we progressed as a planet at a speed that is acceptable.

Technology has not really progressed? Has it?

Comments.

Landing on the moon in 1969 was a major event. In 1969.

No one has ever proved that we landed on the moon...?

Technology has not really progressed... are you sure.

How about every day when you use an ATM, watch live sport, use a microwave, a personal computer. Then when you walk outside you take a phone with you to stay in touch with the world, chances are it has a better camera on it then most people could have afforded 15 years ago. I am sure there are plenty of other technological acheivements that some nerd has made over the last 40 years that has impacted on our lives, either negatively or positively

Don't get me wrong cripple.

A great post.

But the world didn't stop for the ATM / microwave invention.

I had very strict parents and I was allowed to take a day off high school to watch history in the making. :D

G'day 'dogger',
I assume you mean that nothing really 'earth shattering' has occurred affecting mankind
since the enormity of the moon landing.
Those involved in medicine, electronics & communication may not agree with you but I must say
that there is one sector where advancement has bitterly disappointed me.
Transport !
As primary school boys watching 'The Jetsons' in the 60's we were all sucked into believing we'd
be zooming about cities in the sky before the 70's ended.
Well we've waited long enough !
I want my own flying saucer and I want it now !

Depending on what you mean by multiple, they have. According to wikipedia there were 9 moon landing between 1969 and the end of 1972.

Why did they go there in the first place? Just to beat the Russians?

Why are they landing rovers on Mars?

I have no idea! The main reason they should of gone back is to disprove the theories that it was a fake...

The amount spend on space exploration in the last 50 years would easily wipe out hunger and homelessness in the entire world.

We landed on the moon...fantastic. We have let BILLIONS starve to death. But that wont get anyone a day off work/school.

Even more damning is the fact the Catholic church could sell the bulk of it's assets to end world hunger and homelessness. And we do get days off work/school thanks to them.

Fair point, but a lot of the technology used by NASA over the last 40 years has been developed and has assisted in the development in a lot of the technology we take for granted today such as the internet. We probably wouldn't be the society we are today, technology wise, if it wasn't for the moon landing.

Personally, I'd rather see and end to the monarchy (terrible waste of money) and excessive government spending/duplication (eg 3 tiers of govt in Australia).
