After Pt Noar FC didnt bother turning up last week when the hearing was due, I hope they get the $250 fine due to them. FHFC pulled out all stops and turned up as requested when told about it at 10.15 am on the day, despite the extremely late notice.

Plus if was a big enough hit to warrant an 8 game suspension, why didnt any of the umpires report the player? What were they doing?

just putting it out there but i would say watching the footy? i wasnt present but if the incident was behind play what can you expect? clubs are the ones who were against having a 3rd umpire on the field...

There are two things that really annoy me about this 8 Match Suspension that was handed out last night...

Firstly how can the SFL just push it forward to the next week after Porties didn't show up on the first week? Did they have a good reason? (Even if they did I think it's unnacceptable) Even though I don't agree with the 8 game sentance if they showed up last week atleast he would have only missed 6 games next season instead of 7... One extra game next year may not sound like much, but it all counts!

Secondly as neither umpire saw the first incident (porties) or the second incident (flaggies) I assume it was simple Porties word against Flaggies word last night. How can they hand out any suspension let alone 8 weeks when there was no evidence, apart from what the Porties supportes say?

If Flaggies put in a club report against Manhood for his first hit (which started everything) would he be looking down the barrel of an 8 week lay off? (Very unlikely)

I've seen incidents of players coming in swining and causing plenty of damage right in front of the umpire, and when they go to the tribunal (with the umpires evidence against them) they very rarely get any more than 1 or 2 weeks...

If this is the benchmark set i know of an incident earlier this year that should have seen a player go for 10.
IMO if the ump missed it play on.
The Porty player in question has recieved as much as he gives ;)

The punisment really should fit the crime? ??
In this case it is hard t tell as limited people were witness to the event. If sounds like the lad on the recieving end is still in some trouble and the fact that the supporter felt it needed to be taken futrther makes it seem like a pretty brutal incident.
The real problem is the SFL have set a precident that is going to cause them some massive headaches in the future. The tribunal has been missed used and an example made that the SFL are going to regret!

RA- did the accused player plead guilty to striking?

I'd say it now stands at 1!

Couple years back Flaggies went to the tribunal with real video footage of a very ugly incident from the A Grade, which would rate much higher than this event and would have recieved a pretty hefty sentance. The SFL Tribunal being the joke that they are, refused to use the video footage, and as no umpire saw the incident they through the matter out!

SB correct me if I am wrong but wasn't there an incident down there several years ago where one of your players snotted a young emu lad and his brother retaliated by hitting the perpetrator. Your president of the day reported the emu player and he got games.

Also I believe that you still have a big bloke who wears number 32 running around hitting blokes.

The umpires don't manage to see a lot of these incidents so I guess more clubs will make these reports more often.

Lunch box I have been around the club for a long time and dont recall the MV incident but could be wrong. This year we played MV and all witnessed an incident that was also captured on film but did you see us running to SFL! Sometimes a quite word between senior footy ops and managment clears issues up.
As for 32 he has NEVER been reported for striking!!! swearing at f----g umps but nothing else! when your that big people run into you.

Simple solution to the umpiring problem lets have 36 umpires and 2 players on the field..NAH!!!! that wont work they would still miss everything because they would be to busy watching the footy from their better viewing position. please disregard this post

I certainly remember this incident, LL is spot on the money as fas as im concerned! Obviously we dont condone the use of violence on here, but it was something of a "feel good" story IMHO, with the Shoes player in question certainly copping his come uppance when the Emu youngsters big brother showed up...

Was near the end of the season IIRC, and the player from Emus was suspended for 2-3 games - but it took so long to actually happen (the club report, and then subsequent suspension) that i reckon he missed the first few games of the FOLLOWING season, and no games (or more importantly finals) that year.
