Knights Bros.

Postby Tiger83 » Thu Dec 02, 2010 9:10 am

having played a bit of footy with the Knights brothers in previous years I would say that Damian is a 'hard at it' player whose disposal skills let him down occasionally and is prone to brain snaps resulting in free kicks and 50m penalties. Cant knock the way he attacks the footy tho. Adam is a typical case of small man syndrome but has good skills overall. Admittedly i havent played with these guys in a few years so things may have changed..

Damien - hard at it, skills rarely let him down these days, accurate set shot, pretty handy CHB-great spoiler but also can pinch hit in midfield and can play at full forward. Leadership qualities help.

Adam - As above by T83, fantastic tackler, hard, in and under player and finishes, midfielder/centreman

Both good blokes and would be a good inclusion to any footy club.

Nope, disagree Spangy, if the results go with the 'odds' they win 8 and lose 10 and miss [again]

It is a harder draw this year than last in terms of the teams we play twice, so won't be a guaranteed top 8 finish by no means. But things are looking up for flaggies, 2 more players have put pen to paper over the last couple of weeks. One from goody saints and one from mitcham

Question for the SFL Board Members...

Why are finals played on neutral grounds? & the same grounds every year? (Aldinga's ground for the past couple of years has been in ordinary shape!)

I think this is a ridiculous idea & unfair..Finals should be played at the home team ground, regardless! This is one of the reasons why you try to finish as high as you can on the ladder..

Who cares about the parking issues, crowd capacity etc - teams that finsh 1st & 2nd - 5th & 6th should get the game at there ground not away on some neutral ground crap!

I'd say it would be a revenue thing. Games being played at ovals that can't control gate takings would be massive financial loss. If the league said yeah that's fine but let's double every players yearly fees and entry fee to games would you still have that opinion

Not sure about that asert.. Finals are at Porties, Shoes, Aldinga,Marion & beachies... These grounds can control the gate takings.. If it was a revenue thing - what about all the other clubs that can control gate takings...

They shouldn't have to up fees or entry fees for finals to be played at the home ground.... What do SAAFL Div 1 do? I think they play finals at home grounds & grand frinal at a neutral..

Think about all 5 Saturday Grades rather than just the A Grade Spangy. If it was H.Valley vs M.Vale and Valleys finished higher, under your system then that game would be played at Valleys.

Then what do you do about the other 4 grades do they too play at the home ground of the higher team? Meaning that there could possibly be 5 finals matches played at 5 different grounds on the same day. This would be a nightmare for clubs to organise support staff, the SFL would need to spread their resources very lightly, and the crowds would suffer big time. Let alone how bad and minimal the atmosphere would be for all involved.

Although i agree that the higher finishing team should be rewarded in some form, this is not the answer. After all we are the SFL, a competition that is based on clubs and familys coming together, rather than the SAAFL model were clubs spend minimal time together on a Saturday.

SAAFL allow home games to the higher team in the finals up until the Grand Final, but I think at last check it cost $1000 to do that. If the home team doesn't want to pay up it goes to a neutral ground where the league can control takings.

It already happens where teams of the same clubs play at different locations - i.e: 18's could be at the shoes , reserves at porties & then the A's back at shoes for an example... plus it is spllit up over the Sat/Sun anyway.. Agree it possibly could be 5 different games at 5 different locations but that most likely would be split up over the sat/sun which would make it easier..

Maybe an option should be in place if a club wants a home final then they pay out some money taking the gamble they will get it back in gate earnings etc...

So what is the reason why finals are at the same grounds every year???

Probably because they are the better decks in the league and as previously mentioned can cater for car parking etc....

Seriously, would you rather play/watch a final at Morphett Vale or Noarlunga - One has the best deck in the league, good catering facilities, parking and an oval that is suitable to watching good footy, the other can hold 20 cars an average deck and an oval you can kick past centre on from kick ins!

In saying that i think some other ovals could also be used - in years gone by Reynella was used and I reckon Hackham would be alright also.

Aldinga's deck is crap! You know a final at M/vale wouldn't be so bad - not saying I would prefer it because it is a crap deck but the atmosphere would be better as it is a smaller ground & people would be crammed in if you not what I mean!... Sometimes playing on a smaller ground suits other teams rather than playing on a bigger ground & in finals its tight & close, the smaller grounds could produce a closer game than you would think... That is 1 of the reasons I think the home team finals should be at the home team ground until the Grand Final... Catering facilities would be an issue at some grounds but I am sure something could be resolved to accomodate the extra influx of crowds... i.e. bring an extra cart/stand in etc...

If they don't change it or give the option - I don't see why they don't use Hackham or even Happy Valley's ground & there is still plenty of other grounds they can use instead of being the same grounds every year..

Problem with both Hackham and Reynella is that they are not secured grounds (ie they are not fully fenced and people can walk in without paying) however the same argument could be used for Noarlunga and Happy Valley.

Training has started at Valley but it is non compulsory so very few turning up
There have been a few exits and one noteable inclusion apparently who has been impressive - I havent been out to training so cant comment but I've heard good feedback. Dent has had lots of meetings with players but dont know if he has signed any including the valley squad - have heard he has offended one fairly high profile player

Aldinga's food is crap as well. They also run out of food before the main game most times too. Never have i had a decent feed at Aldinga. More often than not the local Deli is by far the better option.
