Watched 2012 last night, and what an abomination of a movie this was ... It would comfortably fit in my all-time 10 worst movies, and it appeared to try to cram in all the crappy elements of Independence Day, War Of The Worlds, The Day After Tomorrow and Titanic - It was almost like one of those pisstakes (ie, Epic Movie).

The CGI was ordinary, the near death survivals were probably close to 100 odd, and overall, the movie really stank!!

They had a subject matter at hand for which they could have, at worst, at least made a decent script and the cast that included John Cusack, Amanda Peet (hubba hubba), Oliver Platt, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor is quite a solid one.

Absolute stinker, and if using the old beer scale I wouldn't even give it half a light beer.

CP I have been putting off seeing 2012 for exactly the reasons you have posted. What I feared appears confirmed! I'll wait until it's a weekly if it isn't already.

Seriously bud, I reckon you could watch the Cantonese version of the "Bridges Of Madison County" WITHOUT Subtitles, and it would be better than this movie that could only be described as a great waste of opportunity.

Knight and Day

Tom Cruise is awful in this.

the movie is court between being an out and out comedy or being an action movie

has a very akward feel to it.

Funnily enough, that's exactly how I pictured it to be .. I can't knock it because I haven't seen it, but from the write-ups and trailers I've not gone out of my way to watch it.

Watched 2001: A Space Odyssey last night for the first time.

I definitely learnt something from it - folks were on some serious gear back in the 60's.

Seriously one of the weirdest movies I've seen. In the context of the time that it was made I can see how it was quite a ground breaking movie. That said, it wasn't my cup of tea. :?

I totally agree... everyone says what a masterpiece Kubricks films are: 2001, Clockwork Orange, Dr Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket......that one where Nicole Kidman gets her norks out (Eyes Wide Shut).... I don't get it. I usually recognise great stories, great character development, great acting but all of these are pretty ordinary.

Every director has his niche. Tarantino, Scorcese, Spielberg, M Night Shyamalan, Hitchcock etc etc and what Kubrick does is..... good, but as far as a good movie goes, something is... lacking. Sure he makes you think, which isnt a bad thing in movies and he certainly knows how to push boundaries, but as far as entertaining the avrage movie goer? I think he fails
I'm sure critics disagree, but i can't see the entertainment.
With that... a slight deflection to the next topic!

Reakon anyone who says they know what the hell 2001 is about is on one damn good acid trip.

The most expensive slide show ever made.

Except for Dr. Strangelove - his undoubted triumph - always found Kubrick's films cold.

A Clockwork Orange was his last hurrah. Pretty slim pickings after that. The Shining, with Jack Nicholson at his hammy best - only out-hammed by his performance in The Departed - was Kubrick's low point.

Critics still love him but then they almost universally rank Citizen Kane as the greatest film ever made, subscribe to the French New Wave's ridiculous (and taking the urine) auteur theory and, by and large, generally don't know jack!

Then again, as William Goldman once famously wrote...

"Nobody knows anything".

You'll find that 'Eyes Wide Shut' was his last as he passed away during the making of the movie.

There was some interesting themes in it. And some of the visions of the future were very accurate (eg. phone cards have already been an gone - and the dudes watching the news on 'ipads' while eating dinner). Would've been one of the earliest space movies as well, so footage of the space ships etc would've been unreal for viewers back in the sixties.

But still - I won't be watching it again anytime soon.

Local film The Marriage of Figaro screened on Channel 9 on Christmas Day.

Understandable why distributors wouldn't touch it.

Not even amateur hour.

Embarrassingly bad.

WORST Australian film this decade. Makes a nice companion piece to Spank!, the worst Australian film of the 90s. Also made in Adelaide...

Tried watching this for a fair time, and ended up playing "Spot The Location" instead. There was a good movie in it somewhere, possibly with a completely different cast.

Even worse than Maslin Beach!

And that's saying something.

Former Miss Nude SA Leylah Love had a part in MB.

I once won a lap dance raffle with her at the Crazy Horse...
