One article bemoans how Marion Football Club is struggling to field 2 sides this season & right next to it another article spruiking the completion of new clubrooms, pokie auditorium, function rooms, change rooms & lighting for $2.8 mill.
And before you start the old "Well your Morphy Park Club is not much better, no juniors & buying players blah, blah, blah...."
I say this:
Make it 2 divs. we will start in 2nd div. I think it is the way to go too.
Just get off our backs about juniors, as i know first hand how hard Morphies are working on it.
Under 16's this year & 18,s in the near future.
Happy Valley are now expirencing it. Most 17 year olds just don not give a crap about footy anymore.
Agreed on all counts

It is not club boards who need to make this decision, most clubs seem to want to go this way. It is the Old Guard at SFL house which is dead against progress. They seem to think big is better.
or
maybe they are just slowly but surely putting some clubs to the sword
Maybe the clubs need to put it to a vote at the AGM which is coming up

My point: 16-17 year olds will do what their mates do, it has always been the same ( in general ). It is about time some of this new generation realise that everything does not get given to them and winning does not come without some hard yakka & some sacrifice. they are mollycoddled for all their junior sporting careers but when the training steps up or more time is taken from their precious social lives then its bye bye sport hello trouble!
Geez i sound old & bitter, but my god, meet them 1/2 way! We as coaches, volunteers & club people have been bringing the line back for so long now, it's no wonder we are nearly going backwards.
Moe out!

What a hypocrite Ron Fuller is.
In his article I see that he fails to mention the treatment that some of these SFL 'recruits' have been dealt. How about a reigning Best and Fairest from an SFL club that was approached by South Adelaide with the opportunity to play league footy, but only to be turned away because he had been chosen to represent his country in another discipline.
This player had attended all pre-season sessions at South Adelaide, and after being selected for an Australian side decided to inform Ron Fuller that he would be away for 2 weeks as this competition was being held overseas. Fuller's reply to this player was that if you take 2 weeks off you are obviously not commited to the cause, and not to bother coming back!!
IMHO, this had cost South Adelaide a seriousy talented footballer who genuinely wanted to have a crack at playing footy at a higher level. Surely this is an extenuating circumstance that Fuller could have given some lee-way. I'm sure most blokes would jump at the chance to represent their country, rather than have the chance to play for a perennially under-achieving football club!

Yes I'm having a whinge about this but bugger me we try hard to get some good publicity to attract kids and players to our club but no we are good enough.
There is more than 1 footy club in the Guardian and Marion Council ditribution area!

Pretty harsh article considering that these local (SFL) blokes he is refering too would have been working full time trying to get their careers up and running outside of football. Lets face it some people just wont be able to commit at SANFL Level due to the amount of work required. Its all good and well to have a crack at them but if your not looking to be drafted then there is no real money or career in busting your bum on the off chance you may get a league game.
All that aside I do think that people should have a crack and chase their dreams and I do like the SANFL competition. Has Ron tried to blame "local" players commitment for years of bad results??
