I PFIFFER...handy player this was his debut season

DEBUTANTS
G HARDEMAN
G MUTTON
A DOWNES
D SMITH
C ROBERTS
R WEATHERALD
G REED
G WISEMAN
P MILTE
J JOHNSON
ST lost several players leading into 1978, no surprise to see so many debutants
R OATEY
PETTINGILL
Were these 2 ex redlegs debuting for ST in 1978 as well ?
IF so that would be at least a dozen debutants, most clubs with that many new players would norMALly be struggling
ST were still a very competitive unit in the 70s after blazing thru the mid and late 60s
Jack Oatey, arguably the best SANFL coach of all time revolutionised a style of footy at ST that was simply enthralling to watch
Had I not been dragged along to NW games as a young kid, I could have easily converted to a ST barracker
MY TOP 5
1 DAVIES
2 BAGSHAW
3 GRAHAM
4 WHELAN
5 KLOMP
