"" Wally always assessed the player as a human being b4 he assessed the player.""
Wally has been mentioned as a savior of the club when it was in strife in the late 60s

Lester Ross was also a greyhound trainer in the 1980s, and could be seen at Angle Park
He once trained a really really good dog and a favorite of mine called White Panther

MILLER/ROSS/HARRISON
What sort of players were they ?
Wally Miller was a determined half back flanker who was an ordinary kick. He was a schoolteacher from the Adelaide Hills. After his illness he became a radio commentator for a few years before he became an administrator with Norwood. He was an absolutely brilliant administrator who turned Norwood back into a powerhouse after a long period of decline.
Lester Ross was a skilful centreman/half forward. He was a completely different player to either of his sons.
Gerry Harrison was a long serving player for Norwood. After retiring he wrote in the Sunday mail as well as commentated on the ABC. Sadly as a footballer he is normally remembered as the back pocket player in the 1960 Grand Final. The Grand Final where "one game wonder" Barry Potts kicked seven goals on him.
A couple of other interesting players listed are Peter Koerner and Mike Daly. Peter Koerner played a brilliant first half in the 1957 Grand Final. He was opposed to Geof Motley who had to be shifted to half forward. Unfortunately for Norwood Motley kicked 7 goals once he was shifted. As a result of his game in the Grand final (and I venture to suggest as a payback for losing Haydn Bunton to Norwood the previous year) North appointed Koerner as coach in 1958. He had an outstanding first year with North taking them to the minor premiership. Unfortunately they suffered many injuries late in the year and went out in "straight sets". North then had a dreadful 1959 only winning three games and Koerner was sacked. he returned to Norwood but obviously didn't fit into Alan Killagrew's plans. He didn't make the 1960 Grand Final side and only played 2 games in 1961.
Michael Daly was an anscestor of the great Bos Daly, the first man to kick 23 goals in a game in SA league footy. He spent one year as a panellist on world of Sport, I think in 1979. He was one of the most outstanding panellists that I have ever seen yet he never continued in the role.
