None of the really smart kids at my secondary school wore glasses at all, and they played sport.
One, who later became a Prof of Pure Maths at UQ, was also school Cricket captain.
Another, who became a Geostatistician at Adelaide Uni, captained the Hockey team.
(Both are also about 180 cm tall and were reasonably good looking young men.)
