They don't get into the draft late, so never know - All would be in doubt though I would imagine.

Would probably raise a fair bit of money but it's a fairly drastic thing to do.
Pretty sure the license is worth around 50K each. I guess they need to determine where most of their revenue is coming from.

Re: The future of West Adelaide.
Not to worry.
I'm sure next year with the AFL listed players gone (most are usually top half of league side quality), and the salary cap needing to stretch further to replace them that the standard of the comp won't drop off.... and you won't lose more players to country/amateur clubs because the effort isn't worth the pissant money on offer.
These factors all point to better revenue opportunities for the clubs.
Onwards and upwards I say!!!

Here's a friendly reminder.
The VFL salary cap (for standalone clubs) is less than the SANFL's.
Yet in season 2011, with that smaller amount of money, but smart recruiting, Port Melbourne BEAT EVERYBODY!

I would like know how we lost 500K last year??? How much were they paying everyone?? Can't be on crowds, pokies etc alone. West do nheot have as many machines as other clubs. They need a good business person to take the reigns.. not so much a football person. There seems to be alot of passion but not much financial wit.

Re: The future of West Adelaide.
Article in todays paper on Wests finances....
WEST Adelaide's appearance in next month's Foxtel Cup final has further boosted hopes the club will win its financial battle.
The Bloods will receive a minimum $50,000 when they play East Fremantle in the competition's final on August 6, and $100,000 if they win.
It comes as CEO Kym Russell reveals West is on track to record a $200,000 surplus this season - without factoring in the Foxtel Cup - thanks to good crowds, membership and a booming junior program.
The positive news out of Richmond represents a remarkable turnaround from March - when the club opted to sell five poker machines after recording a $286,000 loss on the back of losses in 2011 and 2010.
An independent auditor's report at the time described the club's financial position as not viable, but CEO Kym Russell now says West is on track to recover.
"We're not out of the woods, things are still tough, but we're going well in a lot of little areas," Russell said.
"Attendances are still 13 per cent up on the same time as last year and that's translated into catering revenue being up.
"Membership is up. We have 1900 financial members, which is up about 150 from last year.
Junior membership is up and kids footy clinic numbers are up."
The financial turnaround has allowed the Bloods to pay back about $300,000 of its debt to the Australian Taxation Office, and reduce its bank debt by about $50,000 to just over $1 million.
Russell says a payment model to reward players and the club coffers for their Foxtel Cup performance has been developed.
He also expected the national exposure the Bloods received by making the final to help its profile when recruiting next season.
"We've got a distribution model which will allow the players and the club to benefit from making the final," Russell said.
"The players haven't been paid yet for playing in the Foxtel Cup. The SANFL (salary) cap says we can pay a player up to what they would normally get for playing in a SANFL match."
Russell also confirmed the Bloods would host East Fremantle in the Foxtel Cup final next month at AAMI Stadium.
He encouraged Bloods members and other SANFL fans to get behind the club as it flew the flag for SA.
"We'd love all West Adelaide members and supporters to come down and if other SANFL supporters want to come down as well that would be great."

Long way to go, lets see if there are any Salary Cap issues by years end.

Agreed, long way to go.
Why would there be salary cap issues, lost about 10 higher paid players and only brought in 2 recruits while most in the team took a pay cut. Any oppotunity to have a dig Dutchy.

Re: The future of West Adelaide.
Not at all, no one would have predicted this time last year with their financial problems that they would have exceeded the cap, but they did. With a track record like they have had over recent years they need to earn back some trust from their members and stakeholders and that is going to take longer than 6 months.

Good effort considering you were banned from recruiting
Im not a fan of West (no more than the other 7 clubs that I don't follow), but it's great to hear they are turning things around financially .. Hope it's working out for Sturt aswell and every other club that's feeling the pinch. It's crucial that all existing clubs are financially healthy.

a pity the SANFL can't help these struggling clubs out a bit more than they do. maybe that will change soon.

Anyone got any updates on Sturts financial situation?

The SANFL are squandering their money on the dead dogs Port. None left for more deserving clubs.

Due to non-participation in the Fauxtel Cup (thanks @redandblack) Sturt will not be reducing its debt by a minimum $50000.
