Re: Adelaide Oval - NEW Home of SA Footy
Dutchy I admit I'm no soccer nut but the first google search came up with Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova
http://touch.fifa.com/confederationscup ... index.html
I'm happy to be corrected but I read that to say that stadium has 6 world cup games in 2014 and has been newly built with temporary stands just for the World Cup.
I am sure this wouldn't be the only example it's just the first one I came up with.
Edit: search two found the Cotton Bowl in Texas had temporary stands in the end zones for the 1994 World Cup.

Saved it and then spent it you mean?
Yeah. 500 mil to upgrade Adelaide oval compared to 1 billion to build a whole new stadium. Would've saved hell cash

Re: Adelaide Oval - NEW Home of SA Footy
Ok so continued searching indicates temporary seating at FIFA World Cup games is pretty common either to adapt non-soccer venues or to increase capacity just for the World Cup,
Maybe a soccer fan can fill us in on this more.

I think Perth's proposed new stadium was getting close to $1.5 billion at the last estimates.

Will be cheaper if the State Govt just pays for the airfares of those that want to see a World Cup match in Melbourne or Sydney if the planets align and it ever happens

Yeah I know. Just giving the upgrade cost figures some context against a brand new build.

I was referring to recently held world cups, anyway point is the SMA sold the stadium based on it being compliant in its current form, which was a clear lie with them requiring a fully seated stadium.

This is Adelaide Oval not Adelaide Crows Oval. It is for ALL South Australia not just two football clubs and a few cricket matches.
If the SA govt. put so much of our tax dollars into this venue we should use it for every possible venue .... soccer .... rock concerts .... rolling stones ..... international knitting championships does not matter. We need to generate revenue on OUR investment.

Good point, and you would think of all the options, despite current infrastructure not being at a stage which would normally warrant replacement, the rejuvenated Adelaide Oval and Riverbank precinct will give us the maximum revenue for investment.

Looks like every effing ground in the world apart from the twenty metre section of hill they had to leave in.

Adelaide Oval would have looked like every other ground in the world 100 years ago as well.

No roof. The players will survive outdoors just fine and it makes for a better spectacle.
