Well technically it wasn't the AFL back then, it was the original name for the Fitzroy FC.

Some of the ones around Australia are pearlers;

St Michaels FC (now Horsham Saints) in the Wimmera League get called the Fisheaters :lol:

Or in one of the Sydney Leagues, their Uni Team is called the Sydney University "Students"...hello! :roll:

Moorook Kingston FC in the Riverland used to be the Beetles before changing to the Warriors

Then there is the Wunkar Bulldogs from the same league

one of my favourites are the Flinders Uni Crabs

Being a former FUCCer, it would be fair to say the name got trotted out a bit. There's also the flinders uni canoe and kayak club

Moorook-Kingston were apparently named by the Beetles by club great, and former Norwood player, Harley Swanbury at the time when The Beatles were top of the charts, IIRC. It was also Swanbury who made the club song, "a high-flying flag".

US high schools and Universities have some crackers.

Marshall University in West Virginia should have had a name change in 1970 when their entire Thundering Herd Football team went thundering into the ground after a plane crash returning home from their only charter flight trip of the season.

All but 4 junior year players killed. Forced the NCAA to change the rules for them to field a team the next season so they could play freshmen in the Varsity team. Got spanked for the next 10 years.
