I usually hate movies that get heaps of hype, so didnt watch this when it came out.

I watched it on Foxtel on Saturday night, and really enjoyed it. John Jarrott pissed me off though. Worst actor in history.

Tarantino is very good at writing scenes that create a lot of tension just from people talking. Some of Django talking scenes are compelling viewing. Like when the Dentist talks his way out of trouble in his first scene and then again walking out of the hotel to take down that Sherrif. Then there's the great scene with Leondardo and the skull and the hammer.

I really enjoyed Django until the last 15 minutes. I didn't hate the ending and I guess you can't watch a Tarantino film without seeing litres of blood and 100s of bodies :D It removed the reality of the whole movie for me. You could almost believe the rest of it could have happened (note "almost" ..). Then Django he turns into superman and suddenly the villians can't shoot to save themselves (like eg the ending of The Expendables).

I feel like this movie needed a cleverer ending to justify the quality of the writing up to that point. But I think Tarantino was trying to make a point about America's history with race relations and felt that was the best way to make it.

Yeah the ending was a bit shit. I dont like prolonged shootouts in any movie. And the scene in the tavern really kept your attention. The guy that plays the German is a really good actor too.

Watched Seven Psychopath's last night - Good movie, with some excellent dialogue and strong performances (most notably the always great Christopher Walken). Think it missed an opportunity to be a "great" movie via hitting a few flatspots after a fantastic, albeit frenetic, start.

One I saw from the weekly shelf last week (and may have already come up on here) was "A Lonely Place to Die". Released in 2011 and starring our own Melissa George. I'd strongly recommend it if you haven't heard about. Essentially it's a thriller/chase movie involving some mountain climbers in the Scottish Alps, a little girl and two really memorable villians.

Yes. Yes, it was.

Pi$$-your-pants-rolling-in-the-aisles laughter.

Not just the big gags either. Some great lines, too.

All set against a surprisingly heartwarming story.

Believe that.

Much better than I thought it would be for a SyFy/Asylum movie.

Beverly Hills 90210 represented.

Yeah, it's far from the "Worst Movie Ever" as so many said.

I've seen a helluva lot worse that weren't anywhere near as entertaining.

Same with Snakes! Lotta B-Grade fun.

Especially when Sam Jackson drops his immortal line...

Just watched this myself. Totally agree it went a bit flat but overall a good Tarantino style flick

Carrie

Pretty faithful remake. Except it's bland, heavy-handed and over-the-top. Some things I missed from the 1976 original:

- People randomly slapping the shit out of each other.
- John Travolta, Sissy Spacek and the stellar cast. But mainly Travolta. And his Vinnie Barbarino-esque performance.
- Laughs. Funny lines like "Keep your tits on" don't make the cut. Thankfully, this did: "I can see your dirty pillows."
- Dirty ol' DePalma's pervy direction. So there's no gratuitous slow-mo shots of tits, ass or bush.

However, the cameo from Hart Bochner - Ellis from "Die Hard" - made up for these shortcomings. And yes, he played a dick in his one scene. Basically, it's a homage to Ellis. Hans, booby!
