Who does want to face Johnson! The object is to score runs its the first innings and there 300 plus behind
You critising a batsmen for taking a single when he had his other opening batsmen on strike.
WTF!! That is the most ridiculous post off all time on the cricket forum
Heaven forbid an opener wanting to rotate the strike and try and disrupt the bowlers length
Sorry for posting my opinion, i have read some of your comments that I think are total crap but I dont have a go because everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Perhaps from now I will have my say for some of the crap u post
Oh and perhaps have a look at the ball and the run, it was quite obvious what Cook was thinking, he wanted out of there, not for rotating the strike but because he was crapping himself
I know I post ALOT of crap im the first to admit that. But wow that takes the cake
Having faced 150k all be it on a bowling machine I think that starts to get to the point where the game stops becoming 'fun' and u really start to consider how seriously hurt you can get.
I doubt you will find any quotes from test cricketers saying the felt comfortable facing that speed whether that's there job or not

Re: Ashes 5th Test Sydney Discussion (Pink Test)
Probably right Whufc, no one likes facing fast aggressive bowling and especially at that speed.
I played 30 years of cricket albeit not test or shield cricket s an opening batsman, i have a destroyed toe from a great yorker.
I played for nothing, in fact paid to play, Cook is the Captain of England and gets paid to do that job.
My simple point was he wanted to get away from the strike, as a leader he should have played the over out.
Only have to look how Johnson did Carberry over in his last over,
Anyway we I think are on the same side here, lets knock them over for 150-175 tomorrow

Re: Ashes 5th Test Sydney Discussion (Pink Test)
Fair enough
If Cook was in blistering form we may have seen him do that but remember the bloke at the other end had hit more runs than him this series and got out less time to Johnson than Cook.
Slightly off topic but whenever I played and in particular captained a side I would never want a night watchmen as I always felt it was my responsibility as a opener to do just that and was therefore the best equipped to deal with it.
Seemed a tad strange England have gone to all this trouble to bat Bell at 3 and now his going to bat at 4 anyway

Night watchman is there to take as many balls as they can.
It's not rocket science.

Re: Ashes 5th Test Sydney Discussion (Pink Test)
I understand that but personally I don't think the nightwatchmen is worth the disruption.
It should get the Aussies up and about tomorrow morning as no doubt now they will take an early wicket.
Also pushes everyone down the order which was half of England's problem having the likes of Pieterson running out of partners and Bell batting low.
There is a reason Bell bats at 3 and Anderson at 10-1
Want be long and we will see batsmen calling for a nightwatchmen when a wicket falls just before lunch and tea

A night watchman is the most ridiculous thing ever in cricket ... never have and never will understand the warped logic that goes with it.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Got to take the run when it's on offer with a specialist batsman at the other end. No question.
I'm not a fan of night watchmen, mostly because I think it just burns a wicket that might be more handy late in the innings if someone's going well. I understand the logic though, but Anderson was the wrong bloke. Was as likely to get out first ball and force Bell to bat or break a rib as survive the day. If you're going to do it, send out Borthwick. He bats 3 for his county and is a far better chance of putting together an innings than Anderson, who will probably block for a bit before getting skittled for not many. Now the lad will bat 9 and if he does get going, had Broad and Rankin behind him. Broad has been rattled with the bat and Rankin (who couldn't bat to start with) may or may not be fully fit.

So the night watchman has worked a treat ... both openers gone now and Jimmy is a lamb to the slaughter for the Poms to be 3 down for SFA.
