Sorry to hear about your mate FC, that would be a shithouse feeling and one you don't expect a good mate to inflict upon ya. :(

Working in a Kids Cancer unit. Only a relatively small part of my job but seeing these little troopers puts everything in perspective.

The little fella missing since Friday in NSW.

I see the pictures of him across the news coverage and can see my own litttle bloke smiling back at me.

I cant begin to imagine what his family are going through, my heart goes out to them.

Praying for his safe return.

Unfortunately the longer it is the less chance of a positive outcome.

As a long term RAA member I've been torn between insuring my two cars with them or continuing with APIA, with whom I started insuring when living in Melbourne and was no longer able to get cover with the RAA. I also checked a quote for a car I may buy in the near future. The rate was close when I first moved back here in 2009, but life was a bit hectic and I didn't have time to wade through the fine print fully, and so I didn't swap back then.

This year I decided to re-examine the issue. Sadly, RAA rates have risen disproportionately and the quotes were now around 130% of the APIA figures.
I have let the RAA know they are no longer competitive...

Tell me something I don't know.

Did you send an email on Tuesday voicing this Psyber? If so I think I saw it...

agree Psyb, my last car was insured with RAA, but when i got a quote for this one they were pretty much double what others were! i checked in person and online in case it was a keying error when entering the details, but no.

i actually just took it as a sign that they werent interested in insuring the type of car we bought, so deliberately priced themselves out of the market, our previous vehicle certainly wasnt that far above other companies.

leaving a place i have been at pretty much my whole life.
Thought it wouldn't bother me that much, but with my final official duty tomorrow night it has just sunk in a bit.
However i'm excited for the challenges ahead.

Sadly, one can also buy satnav gear and luggage elsewhere much more cheaply than the discounted member's prices at the RAA shop. That why I haven't yet checked out their travel department - I expect more of the same, and the advertisements they send out tend to confirm my suspicion.

Emergency service for car breakdowns has also got slower responding than it used to be, and car manufacturer roadside service deals are starting to look more attractive. It is sad from my perspective as someone who has been an RAA member for over 45 years. The trend the RACV took seems to be coming through - becoming more like trade unions - an organisation more focussed on business and profit,s and pushing a socio-political agenda to obtain government good will, than an organisation to represent the best interests of the members.

Insurance companies do sometimes choose to price themselves out of some markets. When I had an Alfa SGIC were by far the best deal, but when I traded it on in a Maserati they were double the quote I accepted from elsewhere. The problem is now there are only a few major insurers and they often own several of the allegedly competing well known names. So insurance is getting a bit like the Coles/Woolworths duopoly in the grocery and petrol supply business.

For many years I've admired a set of 3 really old and run down villa type homes on East Tce at Brompton and hoped that someone was keeping hold of them for renovation.

Sadly, this morning I saw the demoliton crew there.

Why is Adelaide so quick to get rid of all it's beautiful old buildings and replace them the big ugly ones?

It's called progress FC....

I think Adelaide lost much more during the 1960's from an architecture point of view. The building they knocked over for the now David Jones car park sticks in my mind. There are others along North Terrace as well.
