Brighton and Edwardstown are not country. Location of clubs or leagues does not matter. It is home address only that matters. Not where your boarding school is, not the location of your footy club, not the latitude of your favourite watering hole or where your sister lost her virginity.

Why bother having zones if all Westies have to do is get all of the State Under 12 side to register with Barmera FC?

I'm sorry mate but you're misinformed, I'm not wrong. Address is relevant for ONLY metropolitan areas.

When sides are selecting their players for the U15 state carnivals EVERY YEAR, the players are selected by clubs based on the country leagues in their zone and the clubs that form these leagues. There is no rule that says 'one side of the Main Street is X team and right is Y team. It is sheerlyry based upon country club (I.e. If you play for one club, you play for the corresponding SANFL zoned club - there is no address antics). In this day and age, you will not get a lad who plays for North Clare playing for Centrals because he lives in Gawler - it just doesn't happen.

This is only superseded when clubs DONT want to select a player for some reason, then they can be subject to recruitment from other clubs.

SANFL CLUB BOUNDARIES REVIEW

A Boundaries Commission was formed in 2012 to assess the current SANFL Club Boundaries, the following members made up the Committee:

The Boundaries Commission worked off a Terms of Reference as approved by the SA Football Commission, the Terms of Reference is as follows:

1. To define Zones for each SANFL Club for recruitment purposes.
Each Zone to be described as a geographical Area of the State for both the Metropolitan and Country regions.

2. The Zones to be determined on the basis
a) Distribution of Male Youths 18 Years and Under
b) Participation rates of males in an appropriate age range 18 Years and Under provided a comprehensive and accurate data source can be accessed.

3. The Zones are available for exclusive promotion, so they should recognise the traditional urban heartland of each SANFL Club (urban heartland can be defined as the area that includes the Club Oval and a reasonable surrounding area).

4. The Zones should have regard to a sensible alignment of each SANFL Club with a Country League/Leagues.

100% incorrect. Alignment of a junior player to an SANFL club is based on his mother's address on the electoral roll. Which club he plays for, where he goes to school etc. has no bearing on this at all. If dad or someone else has sole custody etc. then there is provision for a stat dec to be filed in order to get a variation from that.

Clubs that have metro/country zones that meet, such as Centrals, South, Sturt, Norwood have been allowed some flexibility in allocating these players to metro or country teams at U15 level, but only because they are already zoned to club. This is 100 % correct.

Always has been determined by mothers address on the electoral roll.

In country regions more kids line up with a club closely located to their mothers address so it would appear that the country leagues determine the zones. But there is still a boundary drawn around each league, and it will always come back to where the house is, not which footy club the kid has registered with.

eg a kid who lives in Mt Barker could travel the 20 odd km to play for Strathalbyn in the GSFL, he will be aligned to Sturt - even if as an U15 he can be selected by GSFL / SAFC development squad teams along the way.

Marty Matner lived in Kiki (WAFC Zone). Schooled and played footy in Murray Bridge (SFC Zone). Was classified as a WAFC alligned player and SFC had to pay a transfer fee to obtain him officially.
