TripleM radio caller Brenton Yates will replace John Casey for the first couple of weeks of the finals, while John is calling basketball championships.

I hope that calling the SANFL doesn't interfere with his time in doing the form for the dogs!
I reckon there is a chance that he could do the whole finals series

Oh how I've missed the Casey-isms calling basketball games!
"Non-preferred left hand"
"All nylon"
"He shoots from deep where he's a reliable conveyance"
I've noticed a couple of basketball-like terms used in his footy calling, which I find really enjoyable to listen to...
'Goes to work' is one of them, I guess from 'goes to work, in the paint'...

I've heard he will be doing the first 3 weeks of finals and that Casey will be back in time for the Grand Final, apparently?

Casey is an excellent commentator when he spent about a decade calling NBL games for Fox Sports at one point a John Casey bingo game made the rounds featuring all 6 or 7 of his regular lines that he worked into every game. It was a real shame the last year of the Fox contract they moved Casey to AFL games and got Brian Taylor & Dwayne Russell to do NBL games and both weren't much chop especially BT who almost seemed to revel in his cluelessness about the NBL despite still playing rec league basketball at the time and having a son heavily into the sport too.
'Goes to work' certainly would be from 'going to work inside in the paint' fwiw since that one year doing basketball games I've often heard Dwayne Russell refer to the inside of the 50 metre circle as the 'paint'.
I've been patiently waiting for Casey to use 'kicks it with his non-preferred left foot' on 7's coverage but haven't heard it yet

I briefly turned up the volume on the Norwood v sturt match
From what I heard Yatesy did a solid job.

Yeah seemed fine from what I saw too, though I also only watched a quarter or two. Did a pretty good job at calling player names too, though you could tell there were instances where all the players were face on and he reverted to generic comments about the play. Understandable and he did well.
Adelaide oval under lights for sanfl did look pretty cool

Re: Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partn
Wasn't it a three year deal commencing with this year anyway?
Maybe seven had the right to pull the plug if this year didn't work? Thankfully an endless stream of games featuring the Power and the Crowz got the SANFL across the line.

Re: Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partn
Seven’s ratings for SANFL have almost doubled on the 2013 season, with a record match average of 31,364 viewers – an 87% increase on the average of 16,801 that were viewing on the ABC.
The previous best season average was 27,200 in 2002.
Another 2 years, nice. I know the league is paying for it but 7's broadcasts have been so much better than the ABC's which were so staid and dour you would swear the producer was once a funeral director.

How much did the sanfl spend promoting the power and crows with this telecast deal, or was it covered by new sponsors as was claimed would happen pre-season?

According to this the Sturt/South Adelaide broadcast will start at 2pm on 7mate tomorrow.
The SANFL Finals also continue at Adelaide Oval in another double header on Saturday on 7mate with coverage from 2pm.
Sturt and South Adelaide will clash in the First Semi Final at 2.30pm and Port Adelaide and Norwood will play in the Second Semi Final at 5.30pm.
Both matches in the SANFL IGA League Finals Series will be shown LIVE on 7mate.
Last weekend marked the first time the SANFL Finals footy was on Seven since 1987.
The winner of the Sturt and South Adelaide match will play the loser from the Port v Norwood clash on Sunday, September 14 in the Preliminary Final.
Seven’s Mark Soderstrom and Brenton Yates will call the SANFL action with special comments from seven-time Port Adelaide Magpies premiership legend Tim Ginever and boundary reports and interviews by Tom Wilson.
Seven’s SANFL IGA League Finals elecasts are supported by MAC, RAA, IGA and BankSA.

Grand Final
Okay, the big question for the GF: will it be broadcast live nationwide on 7Mate? I mean seriously, why not? It won't be running against any AFL. 7Mate has only got a couple of episodes from Monster Trucks series 5 to run in its stead. The number of single-match sporting events in Australia that pull 30,000+ is not large.
C'mon, Channel 7, do it. This is the sort of thing that digital multichannels were designed for.

Agree. 2 games a season should be national tv or at least into Victoria. This game and good Friday footy until the AFL get their grubby little hands on it....

Just on that, I am amazed we don't get rugby league anymore on the digital channels (or do we still and I haven't noticed?)

I recall early in the season it was live as I flicked between the footy and rugby, but perhaps not enough were watching. Wouldn't mind watching the Penrith finals.
