Way harsh
Simpson is a good solid AFL player, never been an A grader, never will be an A grader
Unfortunately he is judged as if he is an A grader because compared to his team mates he is (even though he is not) ;)

Really? Rarely plays a bad game, would be in Carlton's top 3 or 4 consistent players over the past 5 years.

Better than most. I still say he's played out of position. He's not a half back flanker IMO.

Pretty sure we are saying the same thing. Consistency not his problem. As Carey put it last night some blokes accumulate and some are genuine guns. He's more of the former but still a very decent player

Am sensing the afl hav put a muzzle on hungry journalists who normally at this stage would be wanting blood in regards to driving coaches out of their jobs because it has been seriously quiet in regards to mick malthouse's mantle is a deliberate no go zone in place due to it being the week in which he broke the all time coaching record

Edit: Sensing not sending

Maybe even the chiefs of the newspapers have declared they don't want micks blood on their papers in this particular week

But look out Monday morning if the blues don't beat Brisbane this week at the mcg on mother day

So I've been thinking about who could coach us next year.

In no particular order;

Voss - experienced and didn't do a bad job with Brisbane, will only be better for having been at Port. Brisbane could be deemed to have gone backward since he left.
Sanderson - has he learnt from his mistakes, who knows.
Ratten - would we dip the toe in the water again?

Others;

Sumich - ran second in the recent WCE selection process but broadsided the panel/board on the way through
Stewy Dew - rated highly by Sydney
Bolton - been part of the Hawthorn hierarchy for a long time
Dean Laidley - asst to Mick
Knights - didn't really do a bad job at Essendon - could be worth another go
Burns - must be on the radar soon enough for some team

your first three are out for the following reasons

Voss - apparently Port have not allowed the "get out of contract for head coach" clause in Voss' contract.
Sanderson - no particular reason just don't do it
Ratten - why would he go back to that rabble?

Seeing what Luke Beveredge has done for the Bulldogs, I think it would be a mistake to keep drinking from the well of ex-senior coaches.

Brett kirk is a very good one captain blood

Scott burns I had for crows job last year

Think Voss will want to stick with port for at least a premiership and do a mature age apprenticeship at port for at least 2-3 years

Sanderson?? No way please no, the talking head. Why he gets a gig on gameday tv show is odd enough.

Think mick himself needs to hire someone asap to be the next coach or mick lose his job very very soon. Paul roos Goodwin style

Nathan Buckley?

In all honesty I think someone has to come from the inner sanctum of Carlton, someone that has Carlton in their blood. They've been somewhat of a basket case since their salary cap breach from the Big John days.

Most "more financial" clubs have cycles of peaks and troughs, Carlton haven't reached any great heights for a very long time.

Id be giving Worsfold a call, is keen to get back in the box and would certainly straighten the players out

I look at the era at WC with disdain. Chick, Cousins, Fletcher, Kerr to name a few that only just got thru that era with their lives semi in tact. I doubt "straighten the players out" would be a selling point on his business card.
