Essendon's Baguley copping a week for striking Lonie is rubbish. Nothing more than a hit to the upper arm/chest.

I thought Gibbs got to many and Schulz would have probably got one, mind you, I (and many others) see a difference between the two tackles. So did the MRP, clearly.

Gibbs tackle: 2 motions, Schulz: 1.
I did think that Schulz was going to get a game though, perhaps his actions that immediately followed played a part??

I really think the fact he "lost" the body contact with Richards compared to Gibbs holding Gray fully pinned in was the difference.
When Gray hit the ground Gibbs still had full control, Gray had none. Schulz had control of Richards but lost him in the tackle.

Falling forward into the player looks worse too.

The fact that both tackles are broken down into split seconds by the MRP to come to a judgement is absurd.

Re: Round 14 - Normal transmission has resumed
what was the alternative for Schultz, generally you would teach kids to grab the man and drop your knees when tackling
does it make a player a terror to the game if he is instead deciding to grab an opponent and attempting to sling him over the boundary line fence (sling style)
at the point of contact he was just trying to win a kick at goal with a great tackle, aiming to ping richards for holding the ball
they got the Schultz one right, they got the gibbs one wrong

And Richards wasn't in possession of the pill when he was put into the turf.

So he should've got a free for illegal disposal?

Re: Round 14 - Normal transmission has resumed
If Schulz got suspended for that tackle it would have been a dark day for footy. You cant bump anymore because you may hit the head or hurt the other player and. If you cant tackle because you’re worried the player will get hurt we may as well stop playing the game. As juniors you’re taught to get around the arms so that the player cant offload the ball, just as you’re taught to put your arms up when getting tackled so you can offload the ball.

Re: Round 14 - Normal transmission has resumed
theres were predictions made about how the game would be in ten years, and due to law suits all players after 2020 will have to wear helmets
we will soon call it the ATFL (Australian Touch Football League)

Re: Round 14 - Normal transmission has resumed
Helmets currently worn by footballers are counter productive. They do nothing to prevent concussion and the AFL actually warn against wearing them as it encourages young players to change they way they play and almost neglect protecting their own heads.
Helmets:
There is no definitive scientific evidence that helmets prevent concussion or other brain injuries in Australian football
There is some evidence that younger players who wear a helmet may change their playing style, and receive more head impacts as a result
Accordingly, helmets are not recommended for the prevention of concussion
Helmets may have a role in the protection of players on return to play following specific injuries (e.g. face or skull fractures)

Gibbs was a bit stiff.
Gibbs shouldn't have got none. But he did so the afl set the standards... Schulz should've gone on that basis. I thought Schulz was worse than gibbs and had much harder impact...

Did Gray come back on? Did Richards?
