We are shite, we let all of our good players go.

Until we fix grade cricket and make it as tough and ambitious a competition as possible we'll always spend more time being crap than good. Look at the Aussie test side. Been a strong side for a long, long time now. Even when we lost a whole side of legends, we were competitive against the best and got back up the pointy end quickly. Because we had only 6 sides in the tier below. The next blokes were as battle hardened as possible. Yet we see the need for a grade club in every suburb! No wonder Cosgrove and Ferguson grew up soft. His grade runs came facing the 50th best bowler in SA. Suddenly thrust against one of the best in the world, they don't know what to do.

None of the current clubs are going to want to give up their spot in the District Comp, that's fine, let them all languish in a watered down competition and create a whole new "Premier League" for 2 (or more) day cricket, 4 completely new sides that draw on the best players from the current competition playing in a tough competition against the state's best week in, week out.

When we were kids we played footy in the winter, cricket or tennis in summer, at night we played basketball, in the small town I grew up in there were no other choices until you were "old enough" to play lawn bowls
