In all honesty, it's pretty hard taking over the bronze medalists of the special olympics.

We are shite, we let all of our good players go.

What good players did we let go?

We borrowed Klinger from the Vics for a few years

If nothing has changed, what logical reason could you have for making the only change the SACA seem to think they have? Until we fix grade cricket and make it as tough and ambitious a competition as possible we'll always spend more time being crap than good. Look at the Aussie test side. Been a strong side for a long, long time now. Even when we lost a whole side of legends, we were competitive against the best and got back up the pointy end quickly. Because we had only 6 sides in the tier below. The next blokes were as battle hardened as possible. Yet we see the need for a grade club in every suburb! No wonder Cosgrove and Ferguson grew up soft. His grade runs came facing the 50th best bowler in SA. Suddenly thrust against one of the best in the world, they don't know what to do.

None of the current clubs are going to want to give up their spot in the District Comp, that's fine, let them all languish in a watered down competition and create a whole new "Premier League" for 2 (or more) day cricket, 4 completely new sides that draw on the best players from the current competition playing in a tough competition against the state's best week in, week out.

3 year trial just finished with this setup. Performance hasn't improved, we are no closer to Shield success than we were 5 years ago.

FFS Tasmania compete with less club sides than us. So what are we doing different to them?

Talent pool spread too thinly over too many sports/past times?

When we were kids we played footy in the winter, cricket or tennis in summer, at night we played basketball, in the small town I grew up in there were no other choices until you were "old enough" to play lawn bowls

Think you hit the nail on the head. Cricket there are roughly 20 professional spots available with 6 teams v AFL 40 spots spread over 18. Cricketers are usually past 20 years old when they establish themselves in the team where AFL they are 20 when they nail their spot.

That's the same in all states though. Not specific to us.

Doesn't feel as though cricket in SA has ever pulled in the same direction. State coaches, high performance staff, SACA board, state junior coaches, grade clubs, premier league, 1st XI cricket... all with their own priorities/opinions and blaming everyone else when it goes wrong.
This is Tony Clifton! A name to respect! A name to fear!
