Are the Reserves staying or going
Big story around at the moment that the SANFL may be looking at shelving the Reserves sides from the comp.
Believe they are looking at having the league sides and then U18 and U16's.
Dont make your league team and over the age of the qualification of the other 2 sides you then go and play at a designated SAAFL club.
Sounds like interesting times ahead

Interesting way to get rid of Port Adelaide's Academy team in SANFL Reserves.

Re: Are the Reserves staying or going
Nothing would surprise me with the SANFL given some things they come up with (especially the draw 5 weeks no footy in the footy season).
Would be the beginning of the end of the league as we know it.
It could eventually be AFLSA18 's plus overagers!
If so,could be a good opportunity for clubs to cash in their chips on footy park and start a breakaway comp.
Rome burns!

Re: Are the Reserves staying or going
So the league accommodates the two AFL clubs by allowing them to field their reserves teams in the league comp. This is to allow the two AFL clubs to improve the development of their players/game-style etc.
Yet on the other hand they are looking to remove such a facility to the other 8 clubs? Ok..
Would be interesting to hear what the clubs say about this and if it's anything more than just a cost cutting measure.

They've got lunacy in spades. A soul, now that's something most AFL clubs have the Crows could use.

Wait, you mean you didn't get that the Crows can pursue their poofy tit for tat wth the power elsewhere?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

You may be on to something vics01,
Something has to give to fund it.
Maybe my ammo team will beat my league team in 10 years or earlier!

I was excited there for a second...

Re: Are the Reserves staying or going
All just so crazy.
The SANFL along with the AFL clubs preaches the importance of having control of your own reserves sides, they list all the benefits of having your 'left over players' playing alongside one another in a side structured the same as the league. Having a reserves was the whole reason we have the parasites in our competition.
Now all a sudden they want to can our own reserves sides WTF what a joke.
The other issue is that the SANFL clubs are already struggling to keep players from heading to country and ammo clubs. Now all a sudden we are going to allow these 'fringe' players the oppurtunity to head to these clubs, in alot of cases these players will head back to their junior clubs where they are viewed as mini heroes etc etc.
No doubt the ammos clubs will also make a play to keep these players once the seasons out, why wouldnt they, they would be stupid not to try and keep the players that come back to them.
RIP SANFL!! Thanks for committing a slow and painful suicide.

Excellent point whufc. These fringe players might not come back, once they get a the offer of better money and a reduced workload. Just makes it tougher for the SANFL clubs.
I really can't fathom the whole idea. It makes no sense. I wonder what the clubs' views are on this?

Yep i reckon alot would see the year out with their SANFL clubs and then make the move the following week.
I couldn't see a bloke who has just kicked 4 goals and won a huge game with Eastern Park leaving there to go back down to Centrals and watch presentations of a team he wasn't even involved in when most likely he could stay at EP as the star, have most of his drinks and covered that night and get around blokes who think his a legends.
