It was part of our listening in our late teens as well. A few of us took turns calling him up with the bread and butter sandwiches line. He bit every time.
We'd do similar as teenagers on the Arch Tambakis show.
I liked Bob .. Whether I agreed with him or not was never relevant, seemed a pretty transparent character and called things as he saw them. Met him and one of his wives (Pam I think) one night outside the old Hyatt (now Intercontinental) and they were both really nice people. Was quite saddened to hear of his passing.

Now that definitely rings a bell. Can you remind me what that was about?
Long story short, you had to get on air & talk about anything to him really but somehow just blurt out "I love bread & butter sandwiches" mid conversation. He didn't realise what was going on until it was happening a few times a night. He used to get really worked up calling us wakkas, wankers, dickbrains etc. We were only 15-16 at the time.
Ah yep, took part myself back in the day, was good fun!

Andrew Sachs, the man who played Manuel in "Fawlty Towers", has passed away following a four year battle with dementia, aged 86.

I still use "Even-shually" to this day. No one knows what I'm on about but I still remember mimicking my favourite characters as a kid. Now, I just can't help mimicking him, even as an adult. RIP Manuel!

"This Basil. This Basil's wife. This smack on head." The poor guy took so many genuine physical assaults in the name of comedy.

I think everyone was shocked - he was playing ice hockey with his son and had a heart attack. I liked him in Growing Pains

There's only 16 days left for famous people to die this year, God only knows who else we'll be adding to this list before this horrid year is out.
