Yep, you couldn't find a nice warm cup of Horlicks and an iced vovo for love nor money that day.

Yes, I recall it now!
Might explain the drop in Eagles' crowds? I know if Unley were ever used for a Crow home game we'd need every dog in the suburb to crap on it to help cleanse the filth off for weeks afterwards.

Eagles certainly won't end up bottom when it comes to crowds. They are still to play Norwood, Port and Sturt at home plus their annual carnival game against Adelaide. So their average will rise a fair bit in the second half of the season I'd imagine. Also some rather interesting scheduling for a couple of their home games. Their game against Adelaide was head to head with a Crows AFL away game, and their game against Glenelg on the afternoon leading to an AO Crows home game.

I wonder what the point of this thread is about. Yes crowds are down at all clubs. I don't think there is much that can be done. All clubs work tirelessly but the crowds have gone to the AFL. We need to accept that. We at the Eagles have a hard core group there most weeks but I doubt too many newcomers are regulars. I know they are always trying to get new comers to the home games. We need to congratulate the tireless volunteers for what we have. Some of the fixture timings have been poor against AFL games. I always buy a seasons pass but pick and choose games to go to, Now with the digital pass I may go to less away games. Just me.

The point is we have the one place to collate and discuss crowd trends.
This is useful for measuring the impact of certain measures implemented by the SANFL and other organisations.

The North vs Central figure you are quoting is incorrect. There was a problem with scanners prior to the game and the crowd figure was amended to a higher figure during the next week. There was certainly a lot more than 2,952 people at that game. Both Wedgie and Big Phil reported on this in the Round 2 discussion.

Scott, is it possible to provide overall figures for all clubs, so far this year, vs the same time last year?
It looks as though crowds might actually be a little bit up?

Eagles have already played the other 3 on that list at home this year.
2 home games have been on TV, (Do we know the ratings for those?)
All 5 home games have been Saturdays, as are at least 3 of the remaining 5, I don't recall that many Saturday games at Woodville for quite a while.
Would be interesting to see how this years home crowds compare to past years against those teams if they were played on Sundays considering the Eagles form and results are quite similar across those seasons.
Trust the process.

Compared to each corresponding match last year (same match up at the same venue), 33 of the 47 matches this season have increased in crowd numbers. Adelaide has been involved in 6 of those 14 matches to have a decline in attendance.

As the home team:
Norwood - 5 up, 1 down
South - 5 up, 1 down
Sturt - 4 up, 1 down
North - 4 up, 1 down
Port - 4 up, 1 down
West - 3 up, 1 down
Glenelg - 3 up, 2 down
Centrals - 3 up, 2 down
Eagles - 2 up, 3 down
Adelaide - 0 up, 1 down

Current 2017 average: 2,471 per match
At same point in 2016: 2,483 per match (as at Round 12; average was only 2,103 for the remainder of H&A season)

I did see the amended figure somewhere but I don't know where now. Wedgie thought the crowd was about 3,500 in his round 2 post. The SANFL may have posted the amended figure on their website but if they did they are doing a great job of hiding it.

Lets not forget the perfect weather we have been experiencing this year, probably the best weather ever up to mid June of any season.

This weather should be delivering record numbers to SANFL games if the game is as healthy as the league keeps saying it is.

Current 2017 average: 2,471 per match
At same point in 2016: 2,483 per match (as at Round 12; average was only 2,103 for the remainder of H&A season)

So, just marginally down.
But with the great weather we have been experiencing, plus having Norwood, and Glenelg in the 5 instead of Adelaide and Central, we should be well up on last year's trends.
I can't quite figure out what to make of Port's crowds. Going on your home match figures they are top 4, yet Port supporters are noticeably few at Unley games. Is it the lure of the old enemy that brings out the numbers in Port's opposition? Or do they just refuse to travel anywhere except Alberton? I wasn't actually at PMO for Sunday's game, but when I drove by I saw lots of Double Blue and very little Black and White. In any case, Port are second on the ladder ATM, and being a top 4 crowd drawer, the overall crowd figures should likewise be boosted by their presence.
I wonder how the figures would look if we turned the ladder upside down, and we were having wet, cold and shitty weather?
SANFL is very shaky under the current model IMO.

Works both ways, I was at both Port v Sturt games, the smallest away fans at Alberton from Sturt I have ever seen.

I can tell you Port took alot more supporters to Peter Motley Oval than what Sturt took to Alberton.

The crowd at PMO was great, probably the biggest they will get all year.

I think you find Port SANFL crowds will be down when the AFL side is at home, not many can go to two games of footy these days, especially if you have kids sports.

Errrr derrrp.
A quick look through this thread would've served you well.
Sturt have had over 3800 against Norwood and WWT.
Sturts away crowd at Alberton was down a bit from normal but I'd still suggest we had 800-1000 there for that game. I think the difference was that there were more Port supporters than normal due to Summerton's 200th.
So I can't see how you can back up that Port bring more to Unley than what Sturt take to Alberton, basically you're asserting that Sunday's crowd was 50/50, I'd suggest it was easily 2000 Sturt and 1000 Port at best.
