Re: Riccuito press conference
It would be fitting if he did announce it this week.
It's his testimonial game this week, plus his home club Waikerie's playing Loxton in the curtain raiser on Sunday. Would be a fitting way to celebrate.
But who knows, we've all been around this before...

KG and Cornsey are at Footy Park.
Not retiring, broke the curfew according to Trigg.
Retiring at end of season.
Well played, was great to watch.

Adelaide Crows captain Mark 'Roo' Ricciuto retiresArticle from: Font size: Decrease Increase Email article: Email Print article: Print Submit comment: Submit comment August 16, 2007 04:00pm
ADELAIDE Crows captain Mark Ricciuto has announced his retirement from football.
Ricciuto, lauded as Adelaide's greatest player since the club's AFL inception in 1991, said injuries effectively sealed his decision to retire.
"Footy has changed over the last few years, you can't just sit on the bench ... and just come on for five or 10 minutes a quarter any more," he said.
"If you are prepared to put your name up to be part of the (playing) list, you need to give a prolonged commitment to the full year and you need to be able to do the training consistently, and have the form to play in every game.
"So I haven't got the confidence in that at the moment."
The 2003 Brownlow Medallist (he was runner-up for the medal in 2004) has played 309 matches, scoring 289 goals in AFL competition.
"Roo" is an eight-time All-Australian, captaining the side in 2004 and 2005.
Ricciuto has been Crows captain since 2001 and was the team's leading goalkicker last season.
He was the club's best and fairest player in 1998, 2003 and 2004.
He played in a Crows premiership in 1998, after missing the 1997 final through injury.
The Adelaide Football Club had already dedicated this Sunday's match against the Western Bulldogs at AAMI Stadium as a testimonial match for its much-admired

Re: Riccuito press conference
From the occassional games I've been able to see thanks to friends I can honestly say that Roo was always a joy to watch and I've always had the impression that he is a great bloke off field too. Hope he will stay involved in footy for many years to come...a great ambassador for the game.

Re: Riccuito press conference
After seeing him squib it in his 1st game against the hawks (stepped out the way of a Dunstall lead) I thought Geez what is this guy doing out there........ the rest has been very impressive indeed.

Liberatore won a Brownlow. I don't really think that can be taken into account when comparing players over a career. Going on that basis Liberatore is a better player than Carey.
Regardless i just think those other 3 are/were better players than Ricuttio over their whole careers. I don't need to look at stats to make a decision on who i think is/was a better player as most stats like B&F's, Brownlows etc. are determined by a small group of people who don't necessarily share the same opinion as me. They can also be influenced by so many factors such as personal bias, teammates not being very good etc etc.
