Had a go running this one last week for the first time. Not overly hilly but some nice single trail throughout.
You obviously didn't go down the hill enough! 50kms on new trails being built in there at the moment, some going to be ready by Christmas, I live 5 min bike ride from there so a little excited.

50km really?
Don't let Wedgie get wind of this, people exercising and enjoying the great outdoors should be banned -

Yeah I ran that section a few weeks ago...it's got plenty in it for the mountain bikers! Not much fun to run it...

Harsh, I quite often walk to the pub when I've left the car there.
In lycra?
Not Lycra, I'm not in the Olympics. It would be nonsensical for me to wear lycra when exercising as less wind resistance would mean less physical exertion. I stick to the footpaths and don't inconvenience anyone too.

Pedestrians on footpaths CAN inconvenience cyclists.... are you sure?

I guess you never wore springs on your football boots then, seeing you weren't playing at an elite level.

No I didn't, I wish I did wear springs though as it would have helped my leap in ruck. I wasn't aware springs were an option.

For me it's more than just comfort. The pockets in the back of a jersey are perfect for phone, wallet & spare tube. Padded cycling shorts are a must, even on short rides they are far more comfortable than anything else.

A long time since I've been on a decent ride. Did the 40k round trip from my place out to Whittlesea and back. A popular route for cyclists on the northern side of Melbourne. Fair to say I've "beefed up of late" like to drop 5 or 10 KG Cunningtons.

Two of my long-term keen cyclist mates have reached the point where there knees or related tendons are stuffed and they have both shelled out for pedal/electric models.

That's my next step Psyber. I ride 40-45 mins to work each day and 45-50 mins home each day. There is a bloke who flies past me every day, must take him 15 minutes to get to town each day, legally along the bike path. Time=money and as I get older, I think that I'll save up for an electric version to 'assist' me (ie, I'll rely on it more and more as I can't be stuffed pedalling home!).
I am looking at buying a road bike to build up a bit of core strength and general fitness, hopefully getting to the point where I can commute to and from work on 2 wheels instead of 4 and cut some fuel expenses.
In terms of spending, I don't want to exceed $1000, but also don't want to be riding around on a piece of junk, either.
Any advice appreciated lads
