Couldn't agree more, the 'predicted' amount of spin from DRS was just ridiculous.

Agreed.
Is what it is though.
I thought OUT.
Smith is hilarious to watch.
Hopefully no cricket gods will bite me.

What I find astonishing is out of our whole country we don't have 2 walk up start opening batsmen.
Warner - yes, but we are still searching since Langer & Hayden retired.
Why ?

Renshaw should never, never have been left out of the Ashes.

This pitch is flattening out, that ball from Morkel to Smith outside off stump was 138km and it just sat there.

Renshaw was averaging about 15 in SS this season until a couple of weeks ago. He couldn’t make a run

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
Shaun marsh is the one for me that should be opening with warner yes he has had His chances but he is def good enough to do the job at the top of the order. Bancroft should be banished now and put some time in to trav head to bat 5 he is a class above when he is on and it will pay dividends in years to come. He will play test cricket for aust for a long time so get the kid in there now.
But still doesn't solve the problem why we r struggling to fill the opening spot with warner. But short term give marsh another crack up the top.

Spot on. He proved he had the right shit in him when in India.
The lack of reward & faith was staggering.

Yep, pick and stick with the kid. Considering the chance they took with blokes like Paine who had done nothing to justify getting a Test gig I found it staggering they tossed the kid out like yesterday's newpaper.

Staggering.
Wasted the 1st one, was never out, the 2nd one was bloody close.
Close, but didn’t look out and the umpire got it right. SA are now stuffed if the umps do get one terribly wrong.
I didn’t think it was missing leg by a foot though.

Soz Robran but you don't shift blokes around to fill holes, Marsh is settled, not a 10 year prospect at the top of the order.
Bancroft isn't up to it, knicks behind to much which says he can't handle a swinging ball, Renshaw couldn't make a run earlier in the year but looked fantastic from day dot when he debuted, probably should have gave him the ashes series regardless.
No SS cricketer has stood up and said pick me.

3/95, losing Warner before lunch after being well set was very damaging. Need a partnership now.

Agreed, really need to keep Marsh at 5 as he's settled there now. But I can see him being promoted to open and Handscomb will slot into 5 if they want to drop Bancroft.
And in terms of SS batsman putting their hand up for selection, Maxwell is perhaps the next inline but he's really only a number 6 at international level. Our lack of top order batsman depth that could likely play test cricket is a concern.

Looking at the guys in the SS- Renshaw obviously next inline then you have Weatherald, Harris and Burns after that. Decent shield players but again depth is a concern.

You'd have to concede that Shaun Marsh is our 3rd best bat, with daylight between Warner and him of course.northerner wrote:Omg... what a shock... aussies relying on smith and Warner. Who would have thunk it...

Yep... that would be my answer to my question.
This discussion re Renshaw v Bancroft is immaterial. Not much between them.

Steve smith is truly amazing but good god hes annoying to watch as an opposition supporter. Does he really need to point his bat all the time!

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
yep Smarsh is clearly third
Renshaw has the ability to bat long periods when the ball is zipping around - and has also shown to score pretty quickly, like his last couple of shield scores. will be the long term opener, hopefully both he and bancroft go well though
