Buckley had 5 years of mediocrity and gets extended. Hardwick had 7 years of the same and gets extended.

We sack coaches and go nowhere. We've turned over 42 players in 3 years so in essence this is almost a first year team under Bolton...but the answer is to sack the coach?

i think the proof is that if you think you've got the right coach, give him a chance. And for us, given where we have come from, a chance isn't 3 years, it's 5 at least!

Correct! No one doubts that. So on that premise alone, we're starting way further back than they were.

So what makes you think he's not up to it, because he speaks the way you don't agree with at press conferences?

Another thing we gave up Gibbs this season and on that basis alone we knew we were going to go backwards to go forwards. We then immediately lost Docherty for the season - who was penned to go into the midfield as coverage.

I think that's the thing - no one can tell. I certainly can't.

His game plan that he put together last year was good but we couldn't execute it for 4 quarters. This year, we just don't have the cattle.

Our team is SHOCKINGLY inconsistent. We'll play one quarter then fall away badly, but then with what he's had to work with, could he do any better? I really don't know.

Hence I think we need to give him the ammunition to fire the bullets. Once he's got the cattle we will know if he can coach.

The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is leadership. I personally don't think we have enough good on field leadership. We might have 1 or 2 right people but do we have enough in each line? We need to recruit leaders, not just players.

I saw the interview with SOS on Footy Classified and I was happy with his approach. Good on him. They have to remember they called for the sack of Bucks and Dimma, they also called for Carlton to stop the mixed messages when Malthouse was in charge. As a paid up member, they haven't deviated from the 'this will take time' mantra, so for the time being, I'm happy that we're on the right path. Would I like more wins, yep! Would I like more wins at the sacrifice of longer term success, no.

Completely agree!!!

The other issue complicating things is free agency, but that's another story.

Back on topic - We have too many in the 'under 22' category and no class in the mid range age which is where the kids need leadership. Cripps is 23 and Docherty is 24 but other than that we don't have much in the 22-28 range.

The next range we have lots of (scaringly). Rowe, Thomas, Murphy, Kruezer, Simpson. You can see our list is well out of balance.

Of our entire list;

U22 - 20
22-27 -11 (includes Mullett, O'Shea, Byrne, McDaid (rookie), Shaw (rookie), Liam Jones, Kerridge, Graham)
28 and over - 10 (Phillips, Rowe, Lobbe)

I'd like to see some quality senior assistant coaches go in and help Bolts. I don't know what Tim Clarke, Dale Amos, Cam Bruce and David Teague offer so it's hard to speak about them particularly but I think Matt Capuano and Josh Fraser (who is development coach at stoppages) is getting given a bath in the matchday situations.

Losing Tuohy for Smedts, Marchbank, Pickett and Palmer (Smedts and Palmer, gone)

Menzel for Kerridge (not sure if you count this as a win)

Shaun Grigg (premiership for Richmond) for Andrew Collins (11 games)

Sam Jacobs for Patrick McCarthy and Andrew McInnes (1 and 17 games respectively)

Then of course, Josh Kennedy and Chris Masten for Judd and Armfield.

The list goes on.

I always thought Bell looked promising, just lacked consistency and probably delivery.
