Pirate Life would have been breaking even at best, hence their strategy would have always been to have been bought out (and Fyfe would have known this)

The craft brewers need to pay excise at the same level as the big boys which kills them

Had better, had worse.

Definitely overrated though.

I didnt mind it, was the highlight of my experience at Jimmy Deanes recently (cue restaurant thread). I didnt know it was a rated beer??
Wouldn't buy a carton of it. But as Booney mentioned in summer would be a good session beer

Great Northern got purchased by CUB.
Strong mail is that CUB didnt receive the full recipe and the difference in taste is clearly defined.

Since my 5 week trip to Italy earlier this year I've acquired a taste for the mildly bitter Campari Spritz, and even straight Campari liqueur - also I've become more fond of Strega and Limoncello.

Lion now owns James Squire, Byron Bay Brewing Co, Little Creatures and White Rabbit, while Carlton makes Yak Ales, Cascade, 4 Pines Brewery and Pirate Life Brewing, among others.

Smaller players include Wesfarmers (the owner of Coles), CocaCola, Woolworths and Asahi, which between them own brands like Yenda, Feral Brewing, Steamrail, John Boston, Mountain Goat and Cricketers Arms.

as far as I know James squire has never been an independent brand, was just invented by lion.

same with the yak stuff for CUB.

I think one of the main things some people look for with regards to "craft" is being independent from the big players, given they usually try and crowd the market and deny tap space for the little players etc.

but I for one will still be enjoying pirate life

Tried Pale in a can last night, seemed to actually taste like Pale from a keg more than the bottles do.

Absolutely, I'm actually preferring Session Ale in bottles to Pale these days but Pale out of the keg is my favourite.
Pale in a Can is definitely a lot better than Dr Timms.
Mind you I've only had two of the cans. Will make a full judgement after a few more.

Was funny as only cost me $7 for a six pack, we were due for a Woollies bonus of $10 which the missus was going to use for shopping. Priorities woman!

Might have to test that theory based on your avatar and my dislike for pale stubbies.

I agree can't stand Pale Ale in stubbies, but definitely like having a few on tap
