Raph big departure from Buffs, hopefully they can keep him around in a coaching role, although was dong some stuff with Emerging's so might be headed in that direction.
Nobes? can his body hold up?

Agree re Raph, heard he was going to be more involved with Redbacks, maybe main coach of Emerging. So with young family think he wont have time to help out at Adelaide at all.
Heard Nobes would have retired if won flag too, so maybe not announcing it with the others means he may play on, but his large body is starting to fail.

Great move by Emergings in having Raph there. He'll have plenty to offer the young blokes.

Would like to congratulate the Coach, great bloke, down to earth, exceptional knowledge of cricket and great educator of men
Is it time to consider someone like this for the Redbacks Job?
Can see merit in this as we do have some really good coaches in Sa, (Palmer, Cameron, Seigert, Thompson) however it just feels like you’ve got to have been an ex first class cricketer or at least have been around that system to be a chance of coaching.
Think with the way the Redbacks are playing promoting South Australian players as well as coaches would be a good thing, but can’t see it happening too soon.

Re: Grade Cricket
The best grade/ futures batsman in the state has not been offered a contract, I find this hard to fathom personally.
Does E2014 have any knowledge of what will happen with him now?

Posted comment on the Domestic/Redbacks forum.
Basically, very biased view but this decision is a disgrace. At 24 years of age, he is just coming to the prime age for a batsmen, they have put all these years into him and they discard him now, does not make sense.
Think Tasmania are interested (with Jake Winter too), so will have to see what happens.
Hope he does a Cosgrove and goes down there and dominates and wins a Shield with them, shove it up Tim Nielsen!
If he does not get a gig somewhere, my gut feel is he will do a Peter George and move to another State, let his performances do the talking, and end up with multi year contract like Georgy did with QLD.
Kelvin has top scored for our Futures/Second X1 team for last couple of seasons, so how he can be treated like this is unbelievable really!

That was the rumour about a month ago when I spoke to his uncle, he was pi55ed off not getting a go this year. Good on him for taking a punt. Doubt they would now offer Kelvin one also.

Redbacks offered him rookie contract yesterday, he told few teammates he is staying. Your source correct is it?? Might be like Tom O'Connell and been offered full contract and too hard to turn away?

Re: Grade Cricket
Would the 3 that have been cut be the only changes? Is Pope on a rookie contract? Maybe he could be one that gets upgraded to a full contract? I agree, it's a shame they've spent all this time (and money) on Smith only to cut him loose. I agree with you E2014, I hope he finds a home somewhere else and does well.
I just hope there isn't another case like O'Connell where a young player gets snapped up by another state. Haven't heard of anything like that but I'm sure in the next couple of years hopefully some of the current young crop (e.g. Brazell, Kelly x 2, Pengelley x 2 etc.) can perform at Grade level and get an opportunity?

Re: Grade Cricket
Doesn't seem that there is a lot of faith in anyone outside the first picked six - McInerney, Weatherald, Head, Lehmann, Ferguson, Cooper.
I know they eventually dropped a couple of them but that seemed almost under sufferance and it was a bit of a token thing in the end for Smith in particular.
Our bowling has held us together for a while but Sayers is getting older and picking up more injuries, Worrall has had a bunch of injuries too and Mennie is now 30. Winter didn't have quite the charmed run of 2017-18 either.

Re: Grade Cricket
So our batting has been below par and we chop Smith 900 runs and offer Winter a rookie after 1000 run seasons
Send Winter, Smith and Davis up to QLD for Futures to face a Duke after facing Kookaburras all season
Apparently we value Premier Cricket as a state, IMO what you do in the Redbacks League determines how you are thought of for that season.
Round 1 batting order next season already looks like this, McInnerny, Weatherald, Ferguson, Head, Lehman, Cooper/Davis/recruit, Neilsen then the bowlers.
Tassie chasing a young QLD batter first.

Not sure how much truth in this but also heard recently that Tasmania are chasing one of the Kelly twins from Sturt. The Hound wrote:So our batting has been below par and we chop Smith 900 runs and offer Winter a rookie after 1000 run seasons![]()

Surely Tassie aren't into all of these SA boys?

Re: Grade Cricket
Us forging ahead with the same old XI every single game will make any kid easy pickings for other states eg O'Connell
Why would any talented kid stay? They won't get games no matter how many games we lose

This has to be more fanciful than Tasmania chasing our kids.....NSW surely can't have a bare cupboard given their strength at the national underage championships???niCe_gARRy wrote:NSW looking at jak holiday from TTG for a rookie contract as a back up wicket keeper
