Re: PDCA 2016 - 2017
An on-field brawl during a suburban cricket match has led to a player being taken to hospital and is now being investigated by police.
The incident allegedly occurred in a Para Districts Cricket Association LO1 match between the Salisbury North and Grand Masters cricket clubs at Victoria Park on Saturday.
A SAPOL spokesman said police and paramedics were called to the game at about 2.30pm after a “heated verbal altercation had occurred between an umpire and players”.
The umpire, who was also a Grand Masters player but acting as an official, sustained an injury to his nose.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
The SAPOL spokesman said police had spoken to “a number of people involved in the incident and investigations were continuing”.
Grand Masters president Balaji Krishnamurth confirmed the player/umpire was now out of hospital but said the club intended to press charges with the police against Salisbury North players.
He said the club had also lodged a complaint with the cricket association and was awaiting the results of an investigation.
“Definitely we will be going for a police case against those players who attacked him,” Krishnamurth said.
“We are expecting some meetings or a hearing from the investigation by the PDCA.
“So at the moment I’m afraid I won’t be able to provide some details until we hear the outcome from them.”
Salisbury North president Jason Collard did not comment on the incident, given it was under police investigation.
Para District Cricket Association president Andrew Quinlish said the executive committee had begun an investigation but would not comment on details of the incident until it was finalised.
“There is an investigation into an incident from the game between Salisbury North and Grand Masters,” Quinlish said.
“We are getting statements from every single player (that was) on that field.
“It’s going to take us couple of days to get all that (the details) together (and) I am hoping to have the investigation done by the next round.
“We will go through the right process and we will get to the bottom of it, we just need time to do our work.”

Have there been issues brewing with either of those teams previously?

Not sure either team has had issues to that level.Tony Clifton wrote:Have there been issues brewing with either of those teams previously?
I’ve played against most of the SN blokes at various stages before and they do play an intense game of cricket that’s generally on the edge. Never seen any of them cross the line other than Mullett McGrath threaten to belt everyone in the EP team.

Re: PDCA 2016 - 2017
Cause the player was an umpire at the time does it mean charges for hitting an official rather than an opposition player?

I've had plenty of run ins with Mullet over the years, I like the bloke, generally says his piece, gets the shits on and then gets on with it.whufc wrote:Not sure either team has had issues to that level.Tony Clifton wrote:Have there been issues brewing with either of those teams previously?

Re: PDCA 2016 - 2017
History? **** me, I hate most sides I play against but to reach a point where hands are thrown and it escalates into a brawl is pathetic. It’s cricket - if you feel the need to resort to that sort of behaviour then you should be having a good hard look at yourself.
I don’t care if a bloke cheated or you felt robbed or the umpire was poor or whatever, there is no excuse.

I think the PDCA have been pretty good at handling poor behaviour in recent years and I'm sure the book will get thrown at the culprits if proven guilty.
We all know self umpired games aren't ideal but we know its not easy to get enough umpires to cover all grades. You just have to accept unless it miles out or absolutely plumb its not going to be given.
If I had a dollar for every time as a left handed batsmen I was given out LBW from a ball pitching outside leg stump I would be a very rich man. I even had an ex team mate who now umpires PDCA giving me out and saying he doesn't 'believe' in that rule
