The afl have gone way too far in protecting players.
A couple of dangerous tackles yesterday were rubbish and now it seems any collision, in any situation is now going to be deemed dangerous contact.
Its a friggin dangerous game ffs.
Now we'll see blokes just stop with the ball in between them.
Desperate (the bloke who wants it just that little bit more) attempts to save a game or win one will now be a thing of the past.

Some collisions just can't be avoided.
The afl out is just that. They can't be avoided as its part of the fabric that holds the game together and attracts fans.

Mackay only left the ground once contact had been made

This is another Steve Hocking shocker
In saying that I think those photos are more damming.

He doesn't leave the ground but what he does do is bump a player who 'already' has possession rather than trying to tackle. The AFL don't like when players bump instead of tackling.

Everything looks worse in still frame

Why, in this day and age, does McKay and Adelaide have to wait till Thursday?
Seems like the afl need time to put up a convincing reason for suspension.
Hardly fair on McKay but I guess Adelaide's legal eagles will have time to workshop a counter argument.

Whether we like it or not, the tribunal will more than likely suspend McKay. Hunter Clarke's face is a mess, three fractures and neeve and teeth damage. He will probably miss the rest of the season and may suffer the effects for the rest of his life. Because of the severity of his injuries, they will feel the need to take action. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Either way, the game will survive. Teams may just have to live with players missing a few weeks when they crack in hard and someone accidentally gets hurt.

Clurey broke his jaw the other week against the Bulldogs, they reckon if you draw a line from the middle of the bottom of your nose down over your top lip, past your top teeth, past your bottom lip and bottom teeth to half way down your chin is where the crack was.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

that is why Mackay will be suspended even though they have to make up some bs to punish him.

Are we at the point where we suspend someone if an injury occurs from any sort of contact?
McKay did nothing wrong, it was a footy collision.
Injuries happen, always have, always will!

If they consider you had an alternative / option, yes.

There will always be an alternative but not one the coach or footy fans will want to see.
Surely we don’t want players pulling out of contests?

I agree, I'm trying to understand what the AFL want like the rest of us.

Probably trying to avoid being sued by players after their career has finished.

Have a look at the score when it happened. Up until then the Crows were pathetic, but Mackay turned that game. The Crows coaching staff will never come out and admit it, but behind closed doors they would be praising him for what he did. I bet it gets him votes in their B&F.

Absolutely.
It’s how the Port Magpies won half their premierships!
