Only time ever....

Post by Booney »

40..years ago

ONLY TIME IN TEST HISTORY..

A tragic century in Antigua.

Sir Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes had added 296 in the fifth Test against India, and Greenidge was on 154 when he had to retire to visit his sick daughter in hospital. Sadly, she died two days later, and Greenidge was eventually adjudged to have retired not out, the only such scorecard entry in Test history.

neither did I. How horrible.

The bloke was a phenomenal cricketer. I grew up in great admiration of the Windies and it sh1t me NO END when Ch 9 used to put the news on instead of the first few overs of the ODI's when these guys were batting. He and Desi Haynes were freaks at the crease.

I remember, and still say it to this day, an injured cricketer is a dangerous cricketer. Greenidge used to dig in even more when he was sick or injured. I'm sure the Aussies at the time wished him good health.

Was having a convo with a couple of lads at a Strikers game a few weeks ago ; which past players would have been T20 stars. We eventually settled on a Windies line up.

Obviously Viv would have been a star but I reckon Ritchie Richardson would have been as good as anyone these days.
I loved watching him play.

I was always Richardson in my back yard cricket matches, loved his philosophy on the hook shot and wearing helmets.

You all spelt Gus Logie wrong, that format was built for him. And electric in the field.

Players that have not played an international T20 match. You will have to drop a few from that team.

Yeah right.
I wasn’t sure if you didn’t include current West
Indies players coz they’re mostly not good enough.
Gayle maybe the exception here

Brilliant. As good as Clive was (my favorite cricketer from the 70’s) Logie would have had him in short form IMO.

Haha!
I know how good the Windies were in the 80s and 90s reading and hearing about them but I actually don't have a big emotional connection to them like you guys do given they were before my time but it's always great to learn more about them. Booneys piece of trivia is very interesting one yet sad.
