I imagine because one player was subbed out with concussion, and the other player will be able to play this week.Trader wrote:Oh and how can van Rooyen from the Dees be classified as high impact when Ballard gets stretchered off, but Junior’s is severe when the bomber walked off himself?

Booing has been part of the theatre of footy for at least the last 40 years. Personally it's not something that would enter my mind as a footy supporter (consider it somewhat childish), but if the powers that be are trying to determine the intention of a boo, which seems to be the case, then good luck with that.

Re: AFL Round 8
I remember booing the shit out of Dermott Brereton at footy park in 88.
Along with 45000 other SA fans.
That had no racial overtones whatsoever.
And I don't think Buddy's has either.
I'm still of the view that the majority of the fans weren't booing Goodes because he wasn't white.

Re: AFL Round 8
Booing Dermott in a State game is a bit different. Booing Ginnivan who gained a rep for staging is different. Richmond fans booing Stewart this week because he took Prestia out last season, is different. Booing a player that is having a shot for goal happens at every ground.tigerpie wrote:I remember booing the shit out of Dermott Brereton at footy park in 88.

Constantly booing Buddy in general play is bewildering, never seen it before.

They must have some better vision, I'm still baffled as to what he done wrong.Trader wrote:Interesting he’s been sent straight to the tribunal.
As I said I recon he’d get a few but straight to the tribunal suggests they are considering a lot more.
We know the tribunal has increased penalties, especially recently, but when you consider Bashar Houli got 4 (it was just two before the AFL appealed) for knocking Jed Lamb out cold with a swinging arm, I would have thought a block/Shepard that sees the outstretched arm clipping the opponent is a far lower offence.
Perhaps Junior needs the PM and a national talk show host to appear at the tribunal on his behalf!
Whoops, there goes another year. Whoops, there goes another pint of beer.

Remember when Jon Brown got knocked out running back with the flight? What would happen now - the pack who hit him would get 3 weeks each!?

Re: AFL Round 8
Have been interested to see this has not mentioned in any of the articles I have read in recent times. There is alot said about abuse or dissent towards umpires at the higher level and abuse at the lower level (especially at kids games) but the constant booing at decisions and the end of games as they leave the ground seems to barely rate a mention.Brodlach wrote:Don’t umpires get booed constantly?
The more air-time the booing gets, the more it will happen I think, keep telling people they shouldn't or can't do something and they will do the opposite just for the sake of it.
Trust the process.

Re: AFL Round 8
While I don't agree with these decisions, I can't really blame the AFL too much. There are a number of past players taking action for concussion/head injuries and it's long term effects. The AFL has to do something and at the moment that something is any action that causes a head injury is being penalised. It's perhaps a bit over the top but this reaction was always going to happen once past players started blaming the AFL for long term head injuries sustained while playing. Like the standing the mark or running in protected zone rules, I think it will settle eventually at a reasonable position.gadj1976 wrote:What a farce.Armchair expert wrote:Van Rooyen decision upheld

From my perspective he was booed because he sniped two blokes off the ball in different games and got off both times.
One of them was Selwood from memory. Could be wrong.
These days he would've got 4 weeks.

Essentially the AFL is building it case for when they get sued by a player in this period of time that hits to head were outside the rules of the game and that it wasnt the AFL's fault rather a 'rogue' player to which the AFL took action on that individual.
