Re: Adelaide
How about just include them in the list and adjust the cap.
It is complete and utter bullshit to refer to them as rookies. The Australian Football League Players' Association (AFLPA) has stated a desire to abolish the rookie list, in favour of an expanded 46 player roster. The AFLPA's main argument is that rookies now have the same workload as senior players – which was not necessarily true in the early days of the rookie list – but that their pay and opportunities are much lower than that of senior players.

Re: Adelaide
Exactly. The rookie list may have been intended initially to give rookies a chance (Murry springs to mind) but to use it to delist someone and retain them I don't like. Clubs do it every year and I think it just exploits the players. Just expand the list.DOC wrote:How about just include them in the list and adjust the cap.

Isn't it because the AFL makes clubs have a certain number of trades/retirements/delistings each yearHector wrote:Exactly. Re: Adelaide
But arent they delisting the old guys to make room on their primary list for a new 18yr old draftee? Probably better this way as the kid gets the main list spot and the old guys get a rookie spotHector wrote:Exactly. I presume the old guy who once was pretty serviceable would request a higher salary than the 18 year old draftee.
Rookie list the old guy and his pay demand is minimal due to the rookie list rules, place the drafteee on your main list and you get them at a bargain price as well freeing up plenty of salary cap room for your better footballers.

Re: Adelaide
I'm not saying it's not smart, that's why clubs do it. But in this case, Hamill wouldn't be on that much coin anyway. The advantage the Rookie List provides is that he gets to keep having a crack but with an expanded list he would be doing that anyway without being screwed over financially.whufc wrote:I could have this wrong but,........daysofourlives wrote:But arent they delisting the old guys to make room on their primary list for a new 18yr old draftee? Re: Adelaide
I see him developing into the inside mid rotation (on the opposition go to) with rotation through the forwards in a defensive role over the length of this contract.
Not going to be the main inside mid but part of the 2nd/3rd rotation through the quarter
Rankine is the primary small forward trying to get the 30 odd goals a season
Another good Glenelg lad

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: Adelaide
He should be getting more midfield time in my opinion. I rate this guy, reckon he'll be a main part of their midfield going forward.
Let Rankine do his thing up forward and leave him there, could be a 50+ goal small forward in the seasons ahead.

Pedler, one of those footballers no matter who you support you can’t help but respect and like him.
Such a crucial part of the team, makes Rankine and Rachele so much better.

Surely you could understand the context of me not watching Port as ‘closely’ as someone like Booney who is at half their games, most likely looking at the forward set ups, looking at what happening up the ground, probably even watching a replay lol etc etc
Doesn’t mean you can’t comment however
