Does anyone know if channel 7 went and televised the Dublin vs Units blockbuster seeing as though there was no test match to cover?

Wouldn't have been worth the petrol to go and see it - it was a hammering. Noticed that 5 of Dublin's losing semi final side from last season played on Saturday when at the preseason meeting Dublin said that only 2 were going to play this season and that's why they wanted to drop down from grade 1. Another 2 from the SF side have also played during the season so far. Another exec committee have been bluffed this season. Now ASCA and PDCA.

Have you looked into this? One of the 5 is pushing 50, can hardly count him as a Division 1 standard cricketer - as effective as he may be, another of the crew has barely bowled a ball because a knee issue.

The club from a town of 18 people lost 8 A Grade cricketers during the winter, take 8 cricketers out of Westies, Virginia, Angle Vale, Craigmore, Smithfield, heck any other team in the comp and see how they would compete in LO1’s. Seems a logical business move to look to move to one day cricket with more and more players struggling to accommodate two day cricket. Typical of this comp to throw the hands in the air and sook about clubs doing what is best for their long term viability and the association to point the finger and squeal foul that teams don’t want to play Div 1 cricket.

Dublin had 1 player different from when they played Enfield last weekend, and that game was close and Enfield had 3 of the normal A Graders in the side.. and the guy who got 5 fa got hit for 20 in one over. Can't say they are stacking their side.

Dublin have a lot of good players so do Centrals. Better team on the day won id say, I wouldn't say either of those two sides are unbeatable.

That leaves a very interesting battle between 4th and 8th - only 6 points separates the 5 teams vying for 2 finals spots, and over the coming month and a bit they'll all get their chance to stake their claims.

Para Vista: Currently 4th, 70.00 points - remaining games Units (H), Dublin (A), Warriors (A), PG (H), Enfield (A)
Arguably the toughest run home with the top 3 teams to come plus Enfield who are fighting for a finals spot. They have a 6 point buffer over the 3 sides outside the 5, which may prove pivotal come end of the season. Expect them to finish around the 100pt mark on the ladder.

NEK: Currently 5th, 66.10 points - remaining games Dublin (H), Union (A), BYE, Hazara (A), Units (H)
Not an easy run home - top 2 sides + bye means then need to win probably both their other matches against clubs fighting for their spot to squeeze into the 5. In their favour is all remaining games are on small, quick grounds - conducive to high scoring. Their batting lineup looks brittle at times as displayed on the weekend, but their bowling keeps them in games. Even with two wins, they'll finish around the 92 point mark - that leaves them off the pace from PV and in danger of missing the 5.

Adelaide Union: Currently 6th, 64.40 points - remaining games Enfield (A), NEK (H), Dublin (H), BYE, Hazara (H).
Good run home, 3/4 matches at home and one away to Enfield. Can beat Dublin on their deck, and will fancy themselves against NEK. Wins against ENF, NEK and HAZ will have them up around the 95 point mark.

Hazara: Currently 7th, 64.00 points - remaining games Warriors (A), PG (A), ENF (A), NEK (H), Union (A).
Best positioned of the lot, will start favorites against Warriors, Enfield, NEK and Union. No 'bye' so they have an extra game in hand which will be pivotal. Even if they were only able to collect 2/5 wins, on the grounds and against the oppo facing, they'd be a fair chance to build enough points to scrape ahead of Union. Expect them to finish with anywhere from 90 to 100 points, and baring a disaster would be finals bound.

Enfield: Currently 8th, 64.00 points - remaining games Union (H), BYE, Hazara (H), Units (A), Vista (H)
Crazy to think a side 2nd bottom is still in the mix. Not an easy run home, have a 'bye' + Units leaves critical matches against Union, Hazara and Vista. Reality is they will need to knock off Adelaide Union this weekend to be any sort of chance. Could all come down to the final match of the season against Para Vista to determine if they get in. At this stage I think they'll rue missed opportunities during the season, and it's probably a bridge too far. Form has been too inconsistent to suggest they can make a serious run at it. Expect them to pick up maybe one more win for the season, and finish around the 80 point mark.

Correct I was told LO1 to LO5 was top 5 finals.. but the more I think about it, the less sense it makes - you can't give the minor premier a fortnight off while you sort the other matches out.

My only issue is I wish clubs would be honest with themselves and all other teams in the league. It doesn't worry me if all 7 of your remaining players from last season's SF side (just no Barker x 2, Glaser and Herzick) qualify for finals. Just don't state preseason that only 2 are going to play. Be honest like Parafield Gardens and state that their players want to play one day cricket. All clubs can choose what their preference to play is. Plenty of clubs in LO1 have, for example NEK and CU chose to play 1 day cricket a number of seasons ago, PG and Enfield this season and PV chose when they joined the comp.
Not aware that comp has thrown their hands in the air and sooked or the assoc point the finger and call squeal foul with any of the honest clubs or yourselves at this stage. The Exec over the seasons has worked with many clubs to ensure their existence and their long term viability.

I don't think any team in LO1 is unbeatable. Best team on the day could and should win. A team only needs for about 2 players to click on the day to seal a win.

During the Eastern Park innings Ray Ray was square leg and called a couple of no-balls above waist high, I was near mid wicket and he called them correctly yet the umpire seemed that they were on the way down and didn’t acknowledge the calls, Ray got a bit annoyed and asked if there any need for him to be out there.

Anyway, EP were all out on the last ball of the 19th over, it was going to be the last over due to time but being all out Westies were allowed the full compliment of 20 overs.

I was doing square leg and signalled to the ump twice that I thought the ball was above waist high, he suggested the ball was on its way down, there was a close one that I shook my head at and he came and said to me that I can call them if I think they’re too high. I said to him “hey mate, you’ve ignored me, you ignored the other fella when he was out here, you’re on your own from here”.

The game was getting tense, wickets were falling and runs were slowly getting there, I kept count using my over counter and did regular checks to my daughter via my watch, Westies needed 10 to win and they hit a 4, a single was taken and then another 4 was hit, Tamara was fielding close by so I was updating her, they then bowled a wide and it was relatively quiet on the hill, then the ump fired an lbw.

Apparently there was one run to win with 7 balls left, 1 wicket in hand when the batter gets bowled from a looping full toss where the umpire called no-ball, Ray Ray came on to the ground pissed off with the call as were all of Eastern Park and then the umpire gestured that I had called it to which they were saying no he didn’t, he then reversed his decision and gave her out which then led to mayhem for the next 20 minutes.

The topper was at the height of the mayhem the scorers tallied the books and my count was correct, Westies were up by a run which led to the next lot of rage, this time at each other, not at the umpire anymore.

Same umpire is often late, he didn’t even show up last game so Mossy and I done it without a hitch, although there must have been at least 6 people getting Uber eats delivered to the ground so we thought we were reprieved a few times, it was quite funny.

Exactly, Ray Ray called it correctly, I felt bad signalling to the ump to let him know as I didn’t want us being awarded the run when they weren’t afforded the same deal, it’s never going to be rising or even maintaining the same height, it’s geometrically impossible.

Bear in mind, last we met I gave one of our girls the benefit of the doubt on a stumping on week one then after asking her at the end of the day if she thought she grounded her bat time she thought she didn’t, I felt like a dickhead on week two and owned my mistake, fortunately they smashed us.

They’re a great bunch and still clear favourites, they’re not big headed either, their lesser known players stood up on Monday which will help them in the long run.
