The Adelaide Football club will change its name to Kuwarna (pronounced goo-wun-na) for this year’s Sir Doug Nicholls round. Kuwarna is the Kaurna word for Crows.

Should call themselves Pattawilyangga (Glenelg) for the round.
Whoops, there goes another year. Whoops, there goes another pint of beer.

GOLD Coast defender Wil Powell has been handed a five-game suspension by the AFL for making a homophobic slur against a Brisbane player last Sunday night.

The AFL Integrity Unit has been investigating the matter since being made aware of the incident on Monday, following the incident in the QClash at the Gabba.

Powell has been found guilty of breaching AFL Rule 2.3(a) and been hit with a lengthy suspension for conduct unbecoming, which rules him out until round 14 and also prevents him from playing in the VFL.

He will miss games against North Melbourne, Geelong, Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda. The Suns then have the bye in round 14, meaning he won't be available for selection again until the round 15 game against Fremantle on June 23.

Powell's ban comes just a month after Port Adelaide forward Jeremy Finlayson was banned for a homophobic slur against an Essendon player in round four.

More games because he should know better after Finlayson? Or didnt dob himself in in time? Wasnt remorseful enough early on?
You would think something like this the AFL can finally be consistent on but as usual, consistent on being inconsistent

The AFL came out after the Finlayson incident and said that the next time this happened it would be treated harsher (Finlayson the line in the sand moment - should have been the Clarko one but they Fu*ked up there).

Surprised he only got 5 TBH

As bertie notes the AFL said they'd come down harder on the next player to use such a term, hard to believe it was only 4 weeks later.

You have to be a certain brand of stupid to go with a homophobic slur weeks after Finlayson. The AFL came out and said, "Look out the next person."

I mean, who puts their hand up wanting to be that next person.

Still, the line in the sand should have been Clarkson.

The AFL world is in mourning after the shock death of former Fremantle and GWS Giants forward Cam McCarthy, aged 29.

Paramedics found McCarthy unresponsive after they were called to Lake Coogee in Perth’s south on Thursday night at around 6pm local time.

His death is not being treated a suspicious.

Before lunch - Brendan Gale announces he's leaving Richmond at the end of 2024.

After lunch - Brendan Gale appointed CEO of Tasmania FC.

An interesting read

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-15/afl-geelong-cats-north-melbourne-tanking-analysis/103821878

My take: off field stability + good culture (stars wanting success over cash) + judicious trades + good* drafting = success (der....)

*acknowledging that drafting is an inexact science that does rely on a degree of luck!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Does in the back not exist anymore?
I reckon 1 in 3 tackles are in the back.
When its stacks on the players who jump on to bury the ball under the guy at the bottom with the pill are all over his back driving him into the ground. If they started paying these frees and holding the ball the game would be better.
IMO there should be a 3rd man in rule, penalise the 3rd person to a stacks on, leave it for the 1st 2 to fight over.

Last night's decision to award Freo a free kick at a vital time, right in front of goal, 30 out was so biased its not funny.
Just another case of one of the four trying to justify his job.
Wasn't umpired in the spirit of the game and is such a poor advertisement for umpires, and no wonder they get shit canned.
It seemed a little premeditated to me.
